If god was a normal person, here on earth ...

what sort of person would he be? based on all the things we 'know' about him.
All the things he does if translated to human behaviour, how many of those would be favourable characteristics?
would you like him? be his mate?
Because it seems to me and great number on them would make him a nightmare person - a megalomaniac, bully, delusions of grandeur, irrational demands, cruel, a murderer, a bully, arrogant, vengeful, spiteful, demanding, control freak, impulsive, boorish, moody, demands adoration from everyone... etc
the list goes on ...
so what do you think? are there any traits about him that would make him a good person - as evidenced in his actual behaviour?
what things did he actually do - things noted in the bible - that make him a good bloke - except of course for talking and telling people how to be - (ok so he made the world in 7 days, but thats not really a personality trait)
are there enough good ones to cancel out the above list?
cheers

Actually the Bible tells us that he loves the smell of burning flesh and gives specific instructions on how innocent animals are to be slaughtered and cremated to atone for the sins of humans.
God also led and inspired the Hebrews to massacre hundreds of thousands of people in a genocidal rampage though "The Promised Land". Today God and all those who took part would be in the International Court of Justice for crimes against humanity.

Then there was The Flood where God killed all the animal save a few Noah took on board.
And why? Because the humans He created had become a problem. The fact that the animals had done nothing wrong didn't matter. God doesn't care about collateral damage to innocents.
God also designed animals to eat each other, many suffering terrifying pursuits until they are torn apart.
He also created parasitic worms that cause incredible pain and suffering in animals,
So no. Any suggestion that God is kind to animal is not supported by evidence.

Because, plowter, there are some on this site who don't believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster purely because it is an absurd idea and there is no evidence for it. Can you think of more shallow thinking?
'There is none so blind as those who will not see' is often quoted by one of our regular posters who wisely prefers to trot out slogans than to think for himself. He will certainly be familiar with the Gospel of the FSM.

I would be his mate for the day, take him out on an all day bender.....then we would see the real God.
You know, the stuff you would love to know .....( does he like a fight when pissed , is he a sex pest , does he tell near the knuckle jokes...is he a boring Snag ...etc)

A very interesting question - we'll all have different answers to it - here's my go - If God was here (....and how do we know he isn't here , but that's another question...) he would be keeping a low profile , letting the living things that he created get on with it , and those living things are very good at sustaining themselves . He would only ever have to intervene in extreme circumstances . Very little would incur his wrath , but if one thing incurred his wrath it would be those who abuse his name to wage war for their own political purposes .
There's my answer - I know if you post a pro-God comment on R+S you get shot down , so fire away !

Argorstran, as far as it goes, I find the version of God you presented here a significant improvement over those espoused by most religions.

argorstran, //I know if you post a pro-God comment on R+S you get shot down , so fire away !//
You, like many others, appear to be experiencing a misguided victim mentality. The likelihood of YOU being shot down in R&S is remote. However, the likelihood that an argument that doesn’t stand up to scrutiny will be shot down is not. Please try to recognise the difference.
I think the question refers to God’s personality, so, as the questioner asks //would you like him? be his mate?//

I suggest that there is no real difference. If you come on here and in good faith (sorry to offend all those who have no faith) make a comment which suggests you have a belief in a particular religion, the shots come soon enough. If the posts attack you personally or just your beliefs it adds up to the same thing. Even Ab Editor had to come on this section to warn about the personal attacks. I maintain that this is not a section in which to admit to any religious belief. (sorry, delusion, fairy story etc etc)
Religion and Spirituality is a section which appears to be dominated by those who claim that they are atheist. If they truly are then why come here at all?
