Something a bit different to talk about. Last night's offering from 4thought TV.

The presenter mentions controlled experiments that suggest it is a reality – personally I don’t know of any experiments that are verified - but he also says he seems to have a faculty of mind that takes his awareness beyond his physical five senses to become aware of things that others simply cannot be aware of. Is that possible?

I can recall, vividly, being aware of things that others missed Naomi.
Mind you it was the seventies, my experimental period.

//Can The Dead Talk To Us?//

If they could I'd expect them to say something like, "Son-of-a-virgin! Whatever you do . . . don't get yourself creamated!" :o/
snags it may be utter bottox to you and will be if you have never experienced anything vaguely extra sensory. You should relax, open your mind to new things and you may be surprised. I was not asking to be believed nor was I asking for derision. I know what I've experienced and no, I was not on drugs alcohol and I'm not on medication. ;-)
@Mags well, if you feel you experienced something, I am not going to argue with you.

But- the evidence simply does not support mediums. Anytime that a medium has been tested under proper controlled circumstances, they have failed.

And no one can provide a plausible mechanism by which this supposed link works. Is it telepathy? If so, that means energy is being transmitted direct to the brain of the medium - but no such energy has ever been detected.

And of course, the biggest thing of all - communicating with the dead implies that the dead remain a coherent, separate entity after death -which means that memory and brain function are somehow retain some degree of coherence. This flies in the face of physics. There is no evidence to support this contention at all. Quite the opposite, in fact- most neuroscientists suggest that personality, what makes you you is an emergent property of the unique biochemistry involved in the brain - and when the body dies, thats the end of that.

I suppose it might be possible that there is some aspect of the energy spectrum that we do not yet know about - but that possibility is vanishingly small, and so not really a serious contender.
No they can't.!
However some people do have some telepathic ability and pick up information from the living but Not from the dead. Distance is no obstacle
I once had a letter from my mother when I was in Egypt asking me what was wrong as she had seen me in a hospital bed. She was right I had been in hospital that week but I hadn't intended to tell her. I knew she would probably already know as that was one example of dozens in which
she knew what had happened to family members even when we were living hundreds of miles apart.
My father would get a telegram to my mother saying " I expect you already know but come at once" . They were right , it wasn't necessary as she had already left 2hrs earlier. As a child I thought all this was normal .

In case you are wondering she didn't know everything that I was doing , only worrying events , accidents ,illnesses etc.

As a point of interest she didn't consider it a gift but rather a curse and got annoyed when my father asked her who would win the Derby.
Knew a couple of clarv....(cant spell it) but they went to the bingo quite often never seen them win so if they already knew why did they go.....for the company .

In fairness LG & Chakka, 4thought TV works on a weekly theme and gives time to all opinions. Here’s tonight’s.

Hi Naomi,

Yes, I actually caught it tonight. :)

Its an interesting topic.

Modeller, perhaps the seond question 'Do some people possess a faculty of mind that takes their awareness beyond the physical five senses to become aware of things that others simply cannot be aware of' is really more relevant here.

LG, I watch Channel 4 news when I'm cooking dinner - and this is always an interesting couple of minutes at the end.
Whilst I believe from years of experience that telepathy may be the explanation for my mother powers, she never switched it on , it just happened. However at times she appeared to predict the future in people who unbeknown to them were terminally ill . I can only think she detected something from them. She would tell me and my father that someone she had just met would die within 3 months and they did. It was this knowledge that she found distressing and she described the "power " as a curse rather than a blessing.
She had inherited it from her grandmother and said it appeared to skip generations but only to women . However neither of my daughters have it nor my granddaughters .
.
Can the dead talk to us? Of course they can; every time you read a poem, listen to music or look at a work of art by someone departed, they speak to you.
No they can't - and I had that from my father 50 years after he died.
If they could Saville would get his just desserts.
In your dreams they can and do. Then you wake up a realise it was a dream.

Like Modeller and the man in the video, I think some people possess abilities that others lack, and whilst it’s true that no one has ever produced verifiable results from any experiment into what is commonly termed ‘the supernatural’, I wonder if it’s because we don’t have the equipment required to properly conduct such an experiment? The double-slit experiment springs to mind. With so many people claiming extraordinary experiences – and I would be one of them - I don’t think it’s wise to dismiss it completely.
So what's the difference between that and the extraordinary claims of the religous?

You've done your share of dismissing those
Not time to watch now, but surely this is what audio mediums claim anyway ? What's new ?
Question Author
Jake, the difference is, unlike the religious, I don’t claim to know the cause of people’s experiences.

OG, that video is only about a minute long.
