This is supposed to be an R & S section. However until the editor decides to do something about the obvious prejudice displayed by some, this cannot be a genuine site for discussion on religion.

In my experience I have found that people who say nasty things are generally nasty people.

If you would like this section to be about your religion, then you must ask a question about it. Your questions are often charged with the intention of having the very debate you're now having a flounce about.

If you'd asked something like "Why was Lazarus returned from the grave?" or "What fundamental differences can we draw from the 5 pillars of Islam vs...

I find the attitude of those who evangelise both presumptious and patronising. "Oh, those poor benighted folk who do not our god! We must enlighten them, and bring them into the fold, show them the error of their ways!" How arrogant is that?

Those who evangelise take it on themselves to wave their brand of religion under the noses of others, to offer a certain vision of god that allows for no discussion. They proudly display their absolute conviction, based on faith alone, secure in their belief that they are doing good.

They will often reject science, and logic, and critical analysis, not with evidence or logic themselves, but by reference to the bible as the fount of all wisdom - the Truth. Given what we know about the bible, such a response is just tosh.

I have no objection to anyone having faith, if that's what gets them through life.If you want to be part of a church,a community of like minded inviduals, no problem. But if I see evangelical posts on a public board, open for discussion to one and all, I will challenge those posts when they promote as fact what can only be opinion and faith.
I don't have to defend my faith to you or anybody but I like to. I used the examples of indoctrination, fear and crutch [because they are often what gets thrown up on this forum from you and others on here. I'm quite happy in my faith and I like to share it.
Not much different to you [if something or someone makes you happy the first thing you usually want to do is share in your good news. I know you and I will never agree on anything but that's the way of the world. I'm guilty
of not reading all goodlife's posts, but I just felt it was a shame he felt he had to leave. We are all so diverse. That's what makes us interesting in different ways.
No answer then.
I am not a jw, and I wouldn't let a child of mine die through falsely held doctrine. What makes you think I'm a jehova's witness. I wish to keep some of my life private, that's all. Because whatever church I say I belong to you can bet that you know something wrong with it. Or think you do! Good night Naomi. No doubt we'll speak again soon.
Cupid, I haven't suggested that you are a Jehovah's Witness, and it didn’t occur to me that you might be – but it’s interesting that you defend Goodlife and his 'falsely held doctrine' – but when challenged make it clear that you disagree with it - and make a concerted effort to distance yourself from his religion. As I said, you defend religion simply because it is religion. Think about it.
I don't want to get into controversial discussions on here but I would like to say I agree with everything Cupid has written and I admire her so much for standing up for her (our) faith. Bless you Cupid x
I still think you are misunderstanding me. I wasn't sticking up for him because of his faith or lack of it. I was sticking up for him as another human being. What sort of person would I be if I only mixed with my own kind, so to speak. You've said before that you're an atheist yet have religious friends. A vicar was mentioned, if I remember rightly. It's late and I'm tired and perhaps we can talk another time. cupid04.
Ann, are you sure you agree with everything Cupid has written? I too admire her for standing by her beliefs - that's unusual around here - but I don't admire her for standing up for someone she doesn't agree with simply because it is religion - which initially is what she did - and which seems to be par for the course for the religious. That's dishonest.

Cupid, yes, no doubt we will talk another time. Night. x
