If any of you were the judge in this case, bearing in mind you would have to put personal and religious beliefs aside, what would your decision be?
Not a hope of success , why not sue the catholic church for not allowing female priests while they are at it ?
The judge should tell them how it is - abide by the law of the land.

Fundamentally, it's an impossible judgement - religious doctrine, which we must all respect, versus human rights which we must all respect. I can't see a compromise.
Solomon would be hard pressed to come up with the right answer here. How does this work as a compromise? Churches would be free to marry whoever they liked. Registry Offices could perform a marriage for any couple.

Bluestone, this has been tried many times but actually the Reverend Glynn Cardy is wrong to say that //there is no indication about Jesus's sexuality// We do have a rather strong indication of Jesus’ sexuality – in the Gospel of Philip which indicates that Jesus shared a close relationship with Mary Magdalene and often kissed her.

sandyRoe, //Churches would be free to marry whoever they liked. //

That means churches would be free to turn some away, but I think these fellows want gays to have the right to be married in any church – not just those that choose to accept them, so that compromise won’t work for them.
But some churches won't even officiate at the weddings of heterosexual couples if either are divorced.
Didn't Charles have to slink off to a more liberal Scottish kirk in order to marry Camilla?

That's a different issue.
No, Naomi, it's not a 'different' issue, it's the same issue. Equal rights irrespective of marital status, and equal rights irrespective of sexual orientation. If the Church of England already has the legal right to discriminate on one of them, it can quite validly be given the legal right to discriminate on the other.
Question Author
Bert, the church discriminates against those who are divorced, and I presume if ever legislation obliging churches to marry two people of the same sex came into effect, the same rule regarding divorcees would apply. As I said, it is an entirely separate issue.
These two are only happy when they are in the news
