You spout utter rubbish. We get along fine without gods intervention, thank you very much. We have gone from a population in biblical times of maybe millions to a planet that supports 6 billion and more. Human governance absent divine intervention has provided relatively stable living conditions for a sizeable proportion of that, in the face of a massive, exponential population growth - and what has allowed such growth has been the advancement of rational thinking, group consensus, and advances in science and medicine.

There have been some truly horrific conflicts along the way, its true - but overall, the standard and quality of living for the majority of the population rises, year on year, decade upon decade.

Much of the tension that erupts in bloody violence can now be linked to murderous differences of opinion between different interpretations of religious texts. This leads, in turn, and almost inevitably to savage sectarian violence and attempts at ethnic cleansing, even genocide.Despite this provocation by the intolerance of the fundamentalists, people aspire to peaceful co-existence, fairness and social justice without any recourse to god.

Your god - the god you continually defend and evangelise about - is an unproven entity, a myth arising from a set of narratives, unevidenced, and increasingly unnecessary and irrelevant. Your faith causes its adherents, including you, to attempt to twist or reject reality to conform to a book of myths, and legends and oral history, in the process rejecting rationality and science.

Your co-travellers in irrationality, the fundamentalist muslims, are no better -for example, muslim students recently protested about the staging of a debate in islam and evolution at a prestigious London University. Why? Because the Koran was inerrant, and evolution challenged that inerrancy. Therefore they deemed the debate blasphemous! This is stone-age thinking in a nanotech world.

Your god is an unwanted handicap, retarding human societal development.
God is humanity's appendix - a vestigial organ with no discernible function, prone to flare-ups that can poison the whole body, and for which the best treatment for the health of the whole body is a surgical excision.
Goodlife, //God has patiently allowed people thousands of years to try many times over all the kinds of governments they could think of. //

Same question as the last you failed to answer. How do you know what your God is thinking? A straight answer would be appreciated.
:o)
Cut-n-Paste-Goodlife - “... Rather than blame God why don't you look at what he is going to do to rid the earth of such acts...”

Unfortunately, we can't look at what God (should he exist) is 'going to do' because we can't foresee the future. No one can. In fact, it's a tenant of your faith that you cannot know the mind of God isn't it?

You further preach, “... His thoughts are higher than mans and whatever he says he is going to do he will do...”.

Once again, assuming God exists, you don't know what he said because you weren't there to hear it. All you have to go on is book by your Mr Russell which was adapted from much earlier versions of the Bible which were also written by people who never once met Mr Christ nor spoke to God. In short, your assertion that you personally can know what God has in store for us is built on nothing more than blind faith and wishful thinking.

You further say, “... God has patiently allowed people thousands of years to try many times over all the kinds of governments...”

I can't be bothered to post an answer to this glaringly obvious piece of garbage that you have (yet again) copied and pasted into AB and tried to pass off as your own work:

Lazygun - “... God is humanity's appendix - a vestigial organ with no discernible function, prone to flare-ups that can poison the whole body, and for which the best treatment for the health of the whole body is a surgical excision...”

Bravo!
Hi boys and girls - your arguments are, as always, wise and compelling. God is a real sadist who loves killing children - for a moment there, you nearly had me convinced. Perhaps the people who have had their lives ripped apart by a loony with a gun (I think we can all agree that's not a good thing) will also be asking the question why God allowed it, didn't prevent it, perhaps they will struggle with it, but it seems they are still turning to God to help them in their grief. I wonder why that is?
But you can see those who walk in the light from God are also able to know what stand as a true Christians should take regarding all kinds of theories, philosophies, traditions and doctrines. Much falsehood masquerades as truth today. “The learned fool,” once said Benjamin Franklin, “writes his nonsense in better language than the unlearned; but still ’tis nonsense.” God’s Word is a light because it helps us recognize nonsense for what it is, despite its being clothed in the wraps of respectability and popularity.
Bible enable even inexperienced ones to detect false wisdom. The psalmist said of Jehovah’s words: “The very disclosure of your words gives light, making the inexperienced ones understand.”— Ps. 119:130
Nice to see you following BFs teachings goodlife.
Zabadak, few here are blaming God – rather arguing that since they don’t believe he exists, he cannot possibly be responsible. Additionally, we don't know that those affected are of the same mind as the OP and blaming God, but the reason they are turning to him in their grief is because that’s what they’re programmed to do.
Goodlife /Much falsehood masquerades as truth today./ doesn't it just. :-)
Jom, Goodlife isn't big on irony. ;o)
God is indeed good. He does not kill en masse - people do. God gave people free will for better or worse.
It couldn't have been for better or worse. If he's omniscient, he obviously accepted that this is what would happen.
You have to love goodlifes desperate defence against a good argument - Gods word acts as some sort of " torch of truth" which allows them to reject logic, rationality and truth - however well written or compelling- and bask in the ignorant glow of their faith.

Rather than a torch of truth, Gods Word acts as a prism of propaganda, twisting everything examined by its light into a building block in the buttress of falsehood that underpins their irrational faith.

God gave us free will, they exclaim, and can therefore not be held to account for the evils of the world. But if that is so, that means that this god of yours is either an indifferent creator, totally absorbed by the process of creation - just a careless scatterer of seed with no responsibility to tend or nurture the crop - or a cold, uncaring experimenter, setting up life and allowing to develop as it will, regardless of the consequence.
Neither such scenario is worthy of worship or respect.
Naomi. Are you serious? There are many ways we can find out what the families' reactions have been - they're all over the web. Your use of the word "programmed" also begs a lot of questions. In my experience, some people indeed lose their faith when faced with this kind of personal disaster, at least for a time, but for many, God is where they find comfort and consolation as a genuine experience. Not the baby killing caricature paraded so often in these columns, of course.
Zabadak, Am I serious about what? I have watched television news and seen the bereaved going to church so I presume they are the ones who are looking to God for solace. I’ve no idea how many blame God as the OP appears to – and I don’t intend trawling the internet to find out.
Zabadak - “... God is a real sadist who loves killing children - for a moment there, you nearly had me convinced...” and “... God is where they find comfort and consolation as a genuine experience. Not the baby killing caricature paraded so often in these columns, of course...”

Correct me if I'm wrong but are you suggesting that atheists are blaming god for killing children?
I really wish people would desist from chasing our American friends away with stupid comments like "this is a UK based forum" or "everyone's gone to bed".
Why not just let things flow naturally?
QED LOADS of people are still awake and up for debate, now she's gone >:|

To answer your question SQ - that's him moving in a mysterious way ;-)
Answerprancer - Check the date when this was posted.
She is in NZ not US.
And there was no flow - I don't debate topics like this and there was no one else here. She was getting tetchy at the lack of response....
And I think your comments are the height of stupidity.
