That's necessary, because otherwise it would be impossible to explain the inconsistencies in his behaviour. And the same religious bodies tell the faithful not to worry because their god will reward them for being good believers, if only they die in the faith, because he will reward them in the day of judgment.
Is that day going to before the sun expands and consumes the Earth, as we know, but the writers of religious texts may not have known, or after?

And yet no mention of the wars waged in the name of religion, terrorist outrages done in the name of religion, the obscene wealth held by the major religions, for one of which the OP is a propagandist ('tis so tempting to call him honey).

Locusts, if you look a lot closer at the problems you talk about I think you will find that those areas/countries are also the most religious, not getting a lot of help from their God are they, do you think that is because this God is nothing more than a fairy tale>
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will feed himself for a lifetime, Give a man religion and he will die praying for a fish.

This post reminds me of the sad people who stand on boxes in the high st with a bible in one hand, maybe a megaphone, "preaching" to everyone who walks past.
Everybody ignores them and gets on with their lives.
You feel like shouting out, GO AND DO SOMETHING USEFUL like helping the sick or working for a charity.

@Locusts. No, the existence of war, or food shortages, or of suffering do not prove that there is no god. I am not aware of anyone here who has said so.
On the other hand, I have seen several posters, like yourself, witter on that we have all been created by the all-powerful, benevolent, loving god - a god, moreover, that will respond to prayer etc - an intercessory god. A god that can perform miracles, we are told.
In those circumstances, I think it is reasonable to ask why such a god would allow such injustice, such inhumanity to continue, most especially since a lot of that injustice and inhumanity and barberous and downright murderous behaviour has been carried out in gods name.
Were I an immensely powerful creator god, able to suspend or circumvent the various natural laws, I would be very inclined to chastise those people who have taken my name in vain.
So, what miseries of the human condition there are is not proof of a lack of god, but the mere fact that they continue leads us to question whether such an entity does exist......

True, but atheist of today, thinks that in this modern nuclear, space age it has become old-fashioned to believe in an god. In ancient times many gods was part of the everyday life of the people.
But where is your god that you have made for yourself?: our world is so populated with divinities that you can find a god more easily than a man.

@goodlife
The reason that gods were more prevalent in previous times is because a god was a convenient mechanism to explain the unknown.
As our knowledge of our surroundings and ourselves becomes more comprehensive, the need to explain something by invoking a god becomes superfluous.
I do not need a god, goodlife, nor do i want one. The world does not need a god either.

Nobody can prove a negative. You can't prove that Venus, Mars, Apollo, Isis, Osiris, Odin, Freya or Bananaman don't exist.
But what makes me suspect that there is no all-loving, all-powerful god is that, if he did exist, he'd have to take responsibility for being the biggest abortionist of all. Did you know that close to half of all human conceptions fail to result in a live child being born - with no human intervention at all - ? That's millions of abortions every day, caused by non-human means. Or god, in other words.

The population of the world in 2012 was 7 billion therefore according to you there are far more than that number of gods.
Out of that 7billion+ gods the odds of yours being the only genuine one are 7billion+ against. Or put it another way, the chance of you being right ,even if there is a god, is less than 1 in 7 billion+.

Goodlife, //We must take action in order to resist and thus protect ourselves.//
Yes, it’s all about you as usual. You denigrate atheists, but you haven’t a clue about the works of the many humanist aid organisations around the world – not to mention countless individuals. Rather than educate yourself, you people prefer to help build yet another 'Kingdom Hall' and come here blowing your own trumpet for it. Not impressed – and if there is a God who’s actually worth his salt, I doubt he is either. You have nothing to be proud of.
