Clapping In Church After Ceremony..when Did This Start?
11 Answers
Some people we know at church asked us to stay behind and be at their grand-daugters Christening, which we did, after the vicar had baptised the child, all the family started clapping. When I mentioned this to my daughter, he said it happened at a wedding ceremony she went to. If it's of any interest, Church of England.

They were conducted with proper seriousness but not solemnity. The bride was applauded when she arrived and there was applause as they became man and wife and when it was all over.
It all reflected the joyous occasion that it shoud be. I hope |I never have to attend a church wedding ever again.

The clapping in church took me by surprise too.
As for the plane landing... you pay for the services of a qualified person to fly the plane. Saying thank you as you exit the plane is sufficient appreciation for a paid service. We tend to celebritise everyone nowadays. Even TV presenters, for goodness sake. Is this a new type of religious worship?

I was on an internal flight in the USSR , there was a hole in the floor, many of the seats collapsed, the seat belts came off in our hands, the door to the cabin was hanging off, the plane struggled to take and just made it at the far end of the runway, as we rose the cabin filled with smoke but was in fact fog, several times during the trip the plane lost height but we finally landed. As the captain walked down the aisle we all clapped.
