There is a verse in the Bible book of Ecclesiastes that may seem to be a very strange statement to some readers: A good reputation is better than expensive pleasures, the day someone dies is better than the day they were born.
2 It is better to go to a funeral than to a party,
because everyone must die,and the living need to remember this. Ecclesiastes 7:1-6 (ERV)
How can this be? How can death be better than life?

Shelley wrote;
'Death is the veil which those who live call life:
They sleep and it is lifted....'
He contiually asked if 'life was a form of death, or a deeper form of waking life. Is life death, at least of the spirit?' and 'Is death a form of sleep?'
Could we live merely in order to dream?
"What dreams may come...Must give us pause" Hamlet.
Elderman/Goodlife/obsessed, all the same really.

Baldric@vulcan42@ Do your friends help you to reach your potential, or do you have to lower your standards to fit in with them? Proverbs 13:20 says: He that is walking with wise persons will become wise, but he that is having dealings with the stupid ones will fare badly.

who a clever Boy,So what are you, a good reputation for what?

I'm trying to find something to interest me in your offerings, but the ability to cut and paste copious amounts of the Watchtower et al is just not doing it!
Oh dear, I am going to fare badly.
My friend is a dyslexic, insomniac agnostic.

He spent all night awake, wondering if there really is a Dog.

^^^ That's Wruff! ^^^
Poor guy must be barking.
Infamy! Shelley is Khandro's new best friend. And I've been thinking all this time that he was more or less on my side.
v_e; Apt comment, but because he was an arch-atheist, (he was in fact expelled from Oxford for being so as I'm sure you know) doesn't mean he was all bad. Recent reading; 'Being Shelley' by Ann Wroe, 400 pp, read them all and from where the first quote was gathered.
Arch-atheist eh? is that not just having no belief at all, but having absolutely no belief at all? or worse?
Goodlife, I strongly recommend that you don't believe everything that people who come back from the dead tell you. They might just be a false prophet and you well know how credible they can be.
jomifl; I've no space or inclination to write a biography, but as a young man Shelley was expelled not just for being an atheist, he was not alone in this, but for writing, publishing and distributing a booklet called 'The Necessity of Atheism'.
My personal belief - and you heard it here first - is that he was actually and unknowingly a Taoist.
But not a self identufying Taoist though ?
Goodlife, (to Baldric) //So what are you, a good reputation for what?//

It appears Baldric is acquiring a reputation for seeking, and finding, the truth – unlike you, Goodlife.
Forgive me for asking this, but do you have a spare room/garage filled to the brim with pamphlets, placards and sandwich boards?
Khandro, Just had a quick look a Shelley's 'wikiography', it seems that he was a bit of a spiritual atheist, nein?
'Nein'. Haaa! :o)
