It is more about the extreme belief in an almighty power wanting to solve all your problems/desires unaided instead of realising you should help yourself to get the result you desire.
But unfortunately there appears to be a lot for whom this hasn't 'clicked'. Particularly in some parts of the world.

I fully agree with you but I bet you will get some people who will say that they that they have a right to believe what they like. Not if it affects your children. I think this is a case which backs up my previous argument that anyone who causes harm to a child should never be allowed to have another.
It's quite astonishing how often otherwise sensible ABers want to illogically associate such extremist religious views with all religion and with all religious people. It's as inexcusable as a religious person pointing out that because the three worst mass murderers of the 20th century (Stalin, Hitler, and Pol Pot) were non-religious, then all non-religious people must be intrinsically evil. The non-religious people won't buy that view, of course; but then, where do they get the blind spot that makes them want to sell its reverse?
Society@ "He also give doctors the knowledge to help the sick." He took a bloody long time to do it and why are so many innocent people still dying every day of incurable illnesses, hasn't he got around to those yet? He is certainly taking the p!ss with cancer research, when will the researchers be given Godly intervention?

RATTER15: // Bert, this is directly linked to their faith, their belief in their God. What can Atheists be blamed for that is directly associated with their Atheism? //
You read my post, and yet you do not understand it. What Stalin, etcetera, did was so clearly contradictory to any religious view that it must be associated with their rejection of religious belief. If they hadn't rejected religion, they couldn't have done it. And equally clearly, what those idiot parents did must be associated with the religious beliefs that they hold. Now you, as an atheist, surely feel entitled to dissociate yourself from extremist actions by other atheists; so you make yourself look quite illogical by pretending that you can, nevertheless, associate all religious-minded people with this couple's religiously-motivated extremism.

No Bert, just because an atheist has done a bad deed, that does not mean they done it because they are Atheists, there is no association, these people acted specifically on the beleif in their God to heal their children. And clearly these people do these dreadful deeds because of their strange beliefs!

Very possibly true, Ratter - but still it is wrong, just wrong, to label an entire group for the sins of a minority. Rather like "this is left-wing politics" over the celebrations of Thatcher's death, or "this is right-wing politics" about certain far-right racists, of which again there is a (vocal) minority.
Yes, this is a tragic case of parents apparently blinded by faith. But no, it is not necessarily representative of most modern religious people.
