...but having seen this I'll need to reconsider. If an ancient Egyptian statuette can move why not a more modern Irish one?

i think it is some magnetic force, Professor Brian Cox has another more plausible explanation, mystical movements not on the cards.
I have a bust of Beethoven that rotates on a piano. It's caused by vibrations of people walking on the wooden floorboards.
Question Author
You somehow can't imagine loose floorboards in a museum.
SandyRoe, it is clearly a miracle!
I went to Ballinspittal and the statue there moved. When my mother brought all the statues of the Virgin Mary filled with holy water from Ireland the contents had become Poteen by the time the customs people found them...
We were as amazed as they were...;-) x

Ludwig's piano playing might well be of such a standard that Beethoven is, to use a lyric from Chuck Berry, rolling in his grave. And the bust of the great man is rotating in sympatyhy.
Hardly a miracle.
yeah when I went to see the Moving Madonna at Knock or perhaps it was the Screaming St Brigid at Lourdes,
it had an 'Out of Order' sign on it.

Yeah Maydup - springiness of the floor or I wondered about temperature difference overnight
and the deciding experiment would be..... whether he moves over the week end/ bank holiday.

yeah why cant we have real-time Imhotep-cam ?

Changing plain old water into something tastier has a long and honourable tradition in the church. We all probably remember the Wedding Feast at Cana.
I know, Sandy....but could I get the customs man to buy that.. :-( x
Rubbish
If it's of any help, rumour has it that, as a pianist, Ludwig plays a mean guitar. ;o)
/We all probably remember the Wedding Feast at Cana./
you carry your age devilishly well Sandy :-)
Cox doesn't seem to have explained why it only started moving recently. Perhaps differential friction was only recently invented?
// If it's of any help, rumour has it that, as a pianist, Ludwig plays a mean guitar. ;o) //

Well, I don't like to brag, but It has been said that I have Van Gogh's ear for music.
Question Author
I had the devil of a job getting to grips with differential calculus. I think differential friction, even a rough explaination, would slip through my fingers.
Dear sandyRoe,
Can it do a sand dance? If not, it's a fake!
Possible explanations:
(1) Heat (from crowds, sunlight, central heating). Why? Depends on it's composition cos' different materials expand or contract differently e.g. the bi-metallic strip which acts as a thermostat in your electric iron. Note, little or no such heat sources at night.
(2) Sympathetic vibration due to rhythmic movement. That is why when soldiers are crossing a bridge, alternate ranks change step. The viewers may be passing in rhythm. What happens if they all stop?
(3) Solar or battery powered electric motor. Very unlikely as these miraculous statues are not so blatantly fiddled but have a subtle scientific explanations. The classic ones being wooden with all but the eyes painted over so that they weep resin, sometimes bood red of course. I doubt if they weep on cold nights.
I thought you were being sarcastically funny at first but believe you are curious and so am I now!
Unfortunately the jealous christian god killed off all previous gods inc. egyptian so we can rule out that selfish sod.
Nice one sandy,
SIQ.
P.S.,
When one of those pope geezers woz on his way to Lourdes, they found he had cancer and immediately turned back for Rome. Oh, those of little faith!

^ That's like something you might have read in Ian Paisley's 'Protetant Telegraph'.

But some now believe there could be spiritual explanation for turning statue

Yes, I think the word spirit probably features heavily in the cause of it,
Question Author
When I took strong spirits it was the room that spun. Then I knew I'd had enough.
