If you appear to be relaxed, it will help to lessen your fears.

Cupid@I have many Bible, this is a good one from (ERV) Pro:7 Wise people say things that give you new knowledge, but fools say nothing worth hearing.
So the many Bibles give different references to all the books contained in them? How bizarre. to me, Prov 15:7 says roughly the same message, irrespective of which edition you look at.
//....destroyed most of the people on earth//

When [retrying mormon veto (8,4,6)] came perilously close to getting elected - finger on the button etc - it was a bit difficult to retain the usual relaxed attitude, I can tell you. Not fear of the hereafter either - I'm rather keen on Life -Before- Death, I hardly need to mention.
Goodlife, silly I know - but I get the feeling you're not really asking a question. You're going to preach, aren't you. Come on - you can tell us. ;o)
Lazy gun, and you can't prove there is no God. It works both ways.
Cupid, I can prove that the God you believe in isn't what you think he is - but you'll only scurry off if I do.
Naomi, I don't want an argument. I've been a Christian too long to
change. I'm far from perfect as you may glean if you've read any of the
posts I partake in. He gives me an inner peace that I can't describe. And I want to see the loved ones I've lost again one day.

Yes,just as in the case of the evolutionary scientists, the higher critics have been forced to retreat from former positions by the advance of knowledge, particularly knowledge unearthed by archaeologists.

During the nineteenth century the higher-critic scoffers were loud in their denunciation of the Bible’s position that Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible, one of their arguments against it being that writing was unknown at the time of Moses.

When they had to give ground on this point they did so grudgingly, and arbitrarily said that even if writing was known it was not widely used and Moses did not know the art.

But further discoveries made the rout of the higher critics complete. Now it is acknowledged that writing was widespread in Abraham’s time, that it was used by not only adults but children, whose textbooks have been found. Writing was known before the flood.

Clay tablets with writing on them go back to the fourth millennium before Christ, reaching into the life span of Adam. In fact, archaeology indicates that Adam wrote, and along with others such as Noah, Shem, Isaac and Jacob provided written documents from which Moses compiled the book of Genesis,

Naomi, I respect your beliefs and also Cupids but I would never try to dissuade anyone, as Dave Allen always said 'May you God go with you' xx
Thank you psybbo, I loved Dave Allen's sketches and jokes. xx
// No. I fear eternal hellfire and nothing I do seems to mitigate my dread. //

Rent some Laurel and Hardy DVDs sandy. It'll take your mind off it for a while.
No it won't. I'm reluctantly edging towards the judgement throne, mired in existential angst, Laurel & Hardy wouldn't do. WC Fields, or the Marx Bros, now...
so what's all that about Moses got to do with being relaxed?
We'ins relax in Moses Baskets
Sandy, don't be so hard on yourself. The Bible says whosoever! x
Nothing you've done is beyond God's forgiveness.
Sandy, you are a good man xx
Cupid, I don’t want an argument either. I’m not asking you to change your beliefs, nor am I asking you to justify them to me or to anyone – you have no reason to. You mentioned proof and I responded – that’s all. My only thought is that if there is a God, it is not the weak, petty minded, vindictive bloke you think it is – he of biblical notoriety (but perhaps you don’t know him as well as you might) – and it upsets me to think that good and trusting people are led, by other people who in reality know no more than they do, to believe that a loving God would want to cause anyone to fear him. Where is the rationality in that? Just see what sandyRoe is saying. Love isn’t intimidation. No. If a creator God exists, it has to be something far bigger, and far greater in all respects than that – not something that is intent on meting out cruel punishment for the ‘sin’ of being human. Love is the most important thing in this world. Nothing else matters – and for what it’s worth, I think an afterlife is a possibility too – although not because I believe in the supernatural - I don’t. I simply think it’s possible that there is more to nature than meets the eye.

Blimey, there’s preaching for you! The message is very different – but move over Goodlife!! ;o)

Psybbo, see above.

sandyRoe, stop quaking – and see above.

Goodlife, //fools say nothing worth hearing.// It’s just a thought, but have you noticed no one is listening to you?

Boxy, ‘God’ knows.

I'm like a duck on a pond
Goodlife, If Moses wrote the first five books of the bible, he is the only man in history ever to have recorded his own death. Clever!

//In fact, archaeology indicates that Adam wrote, and along with others such as Noah, Shem, Isaac and Jacob provided written documents from which Moses compiled the book of Genesis,//

What archaeology? Unless you can provide verifiable evidence stop talking about facts. You have no facts. It’s utter nonsense!
But I do not need to disprove god, Cupid. The concept of god is an extraordinary one - a supernatural omniscient, all powerful being, able to listen to and supposedly respond to prayers; to perform or allow to be performed, miracles ; actions that contravene the laws of nature.

Such a being would leave a footprint; in its effects could be measured - but in all those 2000 or so years, there is not shred of evidence to support this type of a god.

And all those actions once attributed to god - creation of the universe, the spark of life, species development, all of it - we have perfectly natural explanations for, verifiable by observation and experiment.

I do not need to disprove god; It is up to believers to prove god, if they expect gods existence to be taken seriously.

And goodlife - you burble again. Whats a higher- order critic? Tablets of mud or any other material are not much evidence of anything very much really, at least as you describe it here.
