How foolish it would be for you to spend all your time accumulating wealth and power as the world does.

To see a lifetime spent amassing wealth is a lifetime wasted. Jesus wisely reasoned: For what benefit will it be to a man if he gains the whole world but forfeits his soul? or what will a man give in exchange for his soul -Matt. 16:26.

A wealthy King spent much of his time acquiring homes, gardens, provinces and all sorts of luxury and he concluded that : I looked at everything done on earth, and I saw that it is all a waste of time. It is like trying to catch the wind-Eccl. 1:14.

If God wishes to show himself and tell us what his way is, rather than have those who claim to know, want to control the rest of us instead, then I'm sure he'll be very welcome to come for a pint, or a cofffee or whatever for a friendly discussion.
There is nothing wrong in letting God into your life Geezer -
even thro the front door !

Oh and while we are at it - pairing NT with OT parallels
shows a presupposition that the OT is in some way a pre-quel to Jesus' life.

and what is the evidence for that (conclusion) ?
or even did Jesus believe it himself ? [whether or not he is historical)
or the Gospel writers ? (presumbaly people think they are historical)

I dont like: wisely reasoned... was there a time he didnt wisely reason
time to go back to the Greek..... I have to say Goodlife does stimulate some thought.

OG; There is no mention of 'God' in the OP, so why not address its substance?
// There is no mention of 'God' in the OP //

Except in the title.
It's true that there are no pockets in a shroud. So we're not taking anything with us when we go. But it can't be against Gods wishes to try to be as comfortable as we can be while we're here in this vale of tears.
boys, I do feel we are kssing the point.....
Lucky there were a few people with money around when Jesus and his friends were wandering the land preaching. None of them had a proper job that made them self-supporting.
There is something strangely attractive about the thought of giving away all ones worldly goods and living a life dependent on the kindness of strangers.

No,Did not the Jesus say~What you should want most is God’s kingdom and doing what he wants you to do. Then he will give you all these other things you need. (Matt 6:33)
// There is something strangely attractive about the thought of giving away all ones worldly goods and living a life dependent on the kindness of strangers. //

There's always a few people like that hanging around our city centre sandy. They've probably not done it through choice though as they never look particularly happy.
Goodlife, since God did not provide sustenance and the other requirements of life for Jesus and his disciples, I can only assume none of them were doing what God wanted ...... unless, of course, the author was telling porkies. ;o)
God guided the hand of the strangers who provided meat and drink for Jesus and the disciples.
He does indeed works in mysterious ways.
// unless, of course, the author was telling porkies. ;o) //

He'd never do that. It wouldn't be kosher.
Haaaaaaaaaa!
Ludwig, the poor people who were driven by their demons to a life of homelessness aren't the ones I had in mind. I was thinking more of the gentlemen of the road, like Wells', Mr Polly.
We are either all his sons or daughters or none of us are. Claims made for one individual would need to be demonstrated as true, not merely claimed. I may as well claim my neighbour is "special" in the same way. I'd not expect anyone to believe me.
// like Wells', Mr Polly. //

He wasn't on the road long. He got a job in a pub.
