No matter what you do, you are never going to be popular with everyone. People who enjoy ridiculing others will always do so. (Proverbs 18:24)

Unless a person displays good qualities—such as honesty, integrity, patience, and consideration—at all times and to all people, what guarantee is there that he will always treat you well?
GL - //If you were interested in making friends with someone you have met, you might want to ask yourself, ‘Who are his friends?’ The type of close associates someone has tells much about the person himself. Also, what opinion do “mature” and respectable people in the community have of him? //

You make friendship sound like a business deal.

Gness it was predestined wasnt it ?

J befriending J.... agonoy in the garden and all that

Chrisgel, that's not GL, it's the JW handbook again!

Sizing Up Potential Friends. If you are interested in making friends with someone
//what opinion do “mature” and respectable people in the community have of him?//

Goodlife never seems to be able to make his own mind up about anything.
So I was told, Peter....bit rough on Judas though....☺
Baldric - You'd never make any friends if you approached it like that.
Oh!
Has Goodlife gone then? He doesn't want to discuss or reply?
As there isn't really a subject for this question I thought I might as well do some advertising for a book I like...

Some of you level the idea of the bible etc being "fairytales" - this is mightily unfair to both the religious and fairytales.

If you're of the inclination to NOT believe what some fairly ancient hippy wants to chatter on about, can I suggest getting in touch with your local indigenous folklore?

This book is called "The Lore Of The Land" and breaks the UK down to a pretty local level in terms of recorded folk history.

Sometimes it's easy to feel under the cultural tyranny of "Christian England" - benign as it may be - and this book goes a long way towards a replacement.

:)

At last, a book worth reading in a GL thread!
I never believed the Bible to be a bunch of fairy tales – but they might be. Who knows? Each to his own.

I see here misunderstanding and unpopularity of humility is nothing new.

In Paul’s day true humility was not understood or practiced in his day
What was glorified was pride and mocking of humility.

//Why did Jesus befriend Judas// simple

Is is why did Judas befriend Jesus.

What does it mean to be a friend of the world?
Could means to be like the world, to think like the world, to share its desires, to harbor its ambitions, to display its prejudices and hatreds.

So if others laugh at your errors, laugh with them. Later on, when thinking back, I will laugh at there mistakes anyway,

You see Some people expect me to be loyal to them or agree with them even if it means compromising my values or doing something against my conscience.

Those aren’t true friends.

Do your friends help you to reach your potential, or do you have to lower your standards to fit in with them? Proverbs 13:20 says: He that is walking with wise persons will become wise, but he that is having dealings with the stupid ones will fare badly.

I meet people like you every day, but having a true friend adds a lot to the joy to my living

That is why “he came to be called ‘Jehovah’s friend.’”—James 2:23.
Because it contains a lot of guff perhaps ?
Early in life I had to choose between honest arrogance and hypocritical humility. I chose the former and have seen no reason to change.
Frank Lloyd Wright
GL...half the time you lose me I'm afraid but I truly hope I am a better person than one who laughs at a friend's mistakes.

My friends don't expect me to agree with them but they can be sure of my loyalty.

I'll reach my own potential without using friends as a means to an end.

Did Jesus not have to deal with stupid people? In what way did he fare badly if he carried out his father's wishes?
so the point of this is to talk about friends and loyalty etc - so what has the heading of your post got to do with it?
The only arrogance here comes from you Goodlife.
Why do so few understand it ? Well, apart from the fact it is written in Gobbledegook you mean . It could be we are confused by conflicting messages .
How can someone indiscrimately kill millions whilst commanding us " Thou shalt not kill.! " Maybe you could explain that GL. ?
Our local language academy is now offering a wide choice of languages.
It appears the bible is one of them.
Gobbledegook is one of the seventy-two languages in which Miranda Goshawk's Book of Spells was published in.
