Ridiculous Project

This project plans to send copies of texts to the Moon for preservation. They are starting with a copy of the Torah. I can't think of anything more worthless to preserve or to represent humanity to any future space travellers.

//Always nice having some sort of explanation for what apparently went wrong.//
How do you mean?

If some future galactic archaeologist stumbling upon the wreckage of a one thriving planet should ask the obvious question, "What were they thinking?" I imagine any surviving religious text deemed worthy of such treatment would go a long way towards answering such a question.

Are you seriously suggesting that the eclipse of humanity will be brought about by religious texts?
I predict that the demise of homo sapiens will come about much sooner than most people think, and it wont be bought about by 'religious texts'.

birdie; One of your daftest posts - and that's saying something!
Your spurious attempt to link religion with the world's burgeoning population is quite unfounded, for the facts see;

In fact I would assert that it is the DECLINE in religion that has been a major contributing factor to the increasing birth-rate. There was no need to issue schoolgirls with contraceptive pills in my day, and as I remember, there were no unmarried teenage mothers in my neighbourhood, - not one.

One of the ways the Abrahamic faiths increase the possibility of destruction is though their Armageddon prophecy. Many of the followers see the destruction of the planet through environment degradation as a "sign" that the "last days" are almost upon us and look forward to it with relish.
Others spend much of their life goading a conflict that they hope will trigger the "day of judgement". Seething religious hatred in the Middle East is the epicentre of this phenomenon.
Religiously provoked conflict is definitely one of the greatest threats to humanity.

Naomi; //Are you really saying that births to unmarried mothers are responsible for the increasing population?// I did not say 'unmarried mothers', I said 'teenage unmarried mothers'. Your posts seem to be increasingly confused, of course it makes a difference, these young teenage girls simply wouldn't have become pregnant in earlier days. and not now in other countries of Europe even.
When I visit the UK it seems to have become the norm that so many teenage girls are pushing prams in the high streets. I don't see that here in Germany and next week I shall be heading off to Austria, Croatia, Italy and Switzerland and I won't see those numbers in any of those places either.
You seem to avoided my main contention though, that birdie's assertion, that the increasing world population is somehow because of religion, are you in agreement with him?

So teenage unmarried mothers in the UK are responsible for the global rising birth rates? Do you want to re-think your original statement?
Yes, I am in agreement with Birdie.
