You know practically everyone prays, often as a last resort when all else has failed.
For example Prayer is an important part of true worship, Jesus’ said: “When you pray, you must not be as the hypocrites; because they like to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the broad ways to be visible to men. Truly I say to you, They are having their reward in full.”—Matt. 6:5.
Yes by having their reward in full.They greatly desired recognition and praise from man—and that was all they would get. It would be their full reward, for Jehovah would not answer their hypocritical prayers.

I don't happen to believe in an interventionist God, but I wouldn't criticise those who do, and to be honest, I do sometimes pray for external thing to happen, for example to alleviate someone's suffering. It can give the feeling that you have 'done something', when there is nothing else one can do.

MrG had to have emergency stomach surgery two years after receiving a donated kidney....things didn't go well and the kidney stopped working.
Sometimes a kidney will kick in again but his didn't and after a while we were told there was now no hope and he was back on regular dialysis.
As I said....I can be a bit cocky and I do believe in positive thoughts so I phoned all my local churches...all the priests in my family....and church going people in America....Australia...Canada and Europe....I was a busy bee....
I asked for prayers to be said for him on the next Sunday....and the non religious to do some positive thinking....
Was the first time MrG didn't complain about the phone bill!
I had a good....if peculiar... relationship with the renal team.....I told them that by 7pm on Sunday the kidney would start working......I was so confident that some of them joined me in MrG's room on the Sunday evening
......though I was viewed with pity...☺
A couple of minutes after seven a little trickle of urine flowed into the catheter bag......result!
You have no idea how hard it was to stay looking laid back and not in the least surprised.....RADA would have accepted me on that performance...
I suppose the medics could have come up with a scientific explanation but they knew me well enough to keep it to themselves.....☺
The kidney worked well for three more years til the hospital gave MrG C.Diff and killed him.

If you pray for something that is sometimes possible then obviously it will sometimes be answered. You try praying for something that never happens
e.g Regrowing a severed limb. It never works . Not even if that limb was just a little finger. Similarly major organs of the body like the heart, have to be repaired or replaced by man, not a God.
There is nothing wrong in praying if it comforts you on any matter but don't let it blind you to reality. I know that last remark will rarely be accepted.
Khandro Buddhism at a basic level appears to be more down to earth than other beliefs but IMO too quickly drifts off into the supernatural. I wonder where RW stands on the matter.

modeller; I'm sure RW views the whole Buddhist canon like he does the bible, and the Christian one, i.e. he doesn't take it all to be literally true. There are aspects of all religions which are metaphorical or psychological and in B. the mind is everything.

I have read the reports of what he said and I can't find sitting , squatting and meditating everyday is going to benefit anyone. Please explain !
He's only 64 . I would have thought there are more practical ways a man with his influence could help those in need.
Maybe the Pope will make him a cardinal. RW has had strong leanings that way for a long time. He also champions gay rights. Catholic bishops should welcome that , it would let a lot of them off the hook.
