I suggest that there is a congruency between the broad sweep of Bible prophecy, and the current world events, particularly in the Middle East

Hello Theland, lovely to see you. When you say "the broad sweep of Bible prophecy", do you mean you've taken bits of several prophecies and linked your choices together - or are you thinking of something more relevant - and if so, what?

The reason I agree with the OP is simply that the Bible does foretell of the last days (Armageddon) which will happen in what we call the Middle East. I am not saying that I agree with this interpretation by any means.

No not particularly, although if one predicts many things and looks over a large enough area one might well spot patterns, regardless as to what is going on. It's the way the human mind works.
