The truly sad aspect of all this is that somebody who believes in Scientology, wouldn't be swayed by logic or rational, because they are the sort of person who believes in this sort of thing, etc, etc. Its never ending because they have had their intellect taken away from them, otherwise they would see the stupidity of their ways !

I was due back on Planet Earth an hour ago, so I had better hurry !
//somebody who believes in Scientology, wouldn't be swayed by logic or rational//

That doesn't apply only to Scientology - it applies to all avid adherents of any religion.

Naomi, your reply got me thinking. Does that mean that it takes something extraordinary to happen for a conversion from one religion to another?

If someone is not easily swayed from one religion how easy is it to 'convert' do you think?
Only by having some empty space in your brain agchristie. I am not perhaps the best chap to answer this for you...you really need a confirmed theist !

Mikey, just curious. If someone is so consumed by their religion then I wonder how another ideology can trump their first choice?
agchristie, although I’ve known non-believers to adopt religion as a result of what they perceive to be extraordinary experiences, extraordinary experiences aren’t a requirement for conversion from one religion to another. In the minds of the faithful the seed of fundamental belief is already sown. Whilst resolute irrationality is the foundation stone of enduring and steadfast faith, the faithful (well, those who don’t convert solely to suit their marriage partners at least) alter their allegiance based upon their own version of rationality. In short, their deliberations lead them to discover what, to their minds, is a more valid philosophy than the one they previously accepted (albeit one usually requiring similarly sycophantic subservience to the same imaginary ‘God’), and moreover, one that claims to offer them, personally, a greater likelihood of cheating death - which is what it’s really all about – and that is how and why another ideology trumps their first choice.
While I'm reluctant to be seen blowing my own trumpet, I think I speak a great deal of sense when I say that God is Love and we should love one another as ourselves.

Another day another load of sweeping and untrue statements about religion according to Naomi
Grasscarp, if you think I'm wrong, perhaps rather than offer nothing more than your usual personal attacks, you'll join the discussion and tell me in a rational and civilised manner why you disagree.
This is not a personal attack. It is a comment that constantly you come out with "religion according to you" and present it as fact. You don't know how to do rational debate as I found the other day in your "another mad convert" debate which ended with you calling me a defender of Muslims! No apology when I said I am most definitely not.
You get an idea in your head and come hell or high water you stick to it so I would never again try to break things down and try to make you modify your statements which you deliver as facts.
Grasscarp, //This is not a personal attack. It is a comment that constantly you come out with "religion according to you" //

Well I can hardly “come out” with religion according to you, can I?!

"This is not a personal attack", but strangely, it’s all about your perception of my faults - again.
Your statements are issued as if facts Naomi when all they are your thoughts/perceptions whatever you want to call them. They are so irrational they would laughable if not consistently intended to be offensive to christians. There was a lot of truth in Kvalidir's posts on aforementioned thread and she was saying similar things about you and your statements. (i.e. just by continually writing the same thing again and again doesnt make it true)
And continually re reading the bible doesn't make it true either.
Same way that not reading it doesnt make it untrue!
Grasscarp, I am not about to change my opinions or my methods of conveying them for you or for anyone else. You have added nothing of relevance to this discussion, so please stop disrupting it and allow those who want to continue to do so.
Oh I am disrupting the discussion. Oh dear. There is either total agreement with you and these people get little smiley emoticons, or disagree and you get ordered off. I will continue to post with or without your approval Naomi.
Grasscarp, you don't need my approval to do anything, and no one has 'ordered' you off. However, you are coming across as a little vindictive and as bit of a moaner - but if that's your choice, carry on. It means nothing to me.
Vindictive? Moaner?
Who is the one dishing personal attacks Naomi.
Grasscarp, and there's me thinking I was offering you a word of friendly advice. Just stop. This is silly and unnecessary.
"You have added nothing of relevance to this discussion, so please stop disrupting it"
I neither want or need your "friendly" advice Naomi.
