Will You Listen To God.

It been said we learned 85 per cent of what we know by listening.
Although we spend much of our time listening, we are distracted or preoccupied or we forget 75 percent of what we hear, for good reason, Jesus stressed the need to “pay attention to how you listen.” (Luke 8:18) Yes good listening shows good manners.

We usually employ the word 'listen' to things auditory, but if it is extended to include all forms of perception, which is what I believe is implied in the quote, then we may escape from the purely materialisti c view, and advance some way toward enlightenmen t, surely the goal of human existence.

Would you say much the same situation existed in the days of the inhabitants of the immoral cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Although warned of their impending destruction because of their gross badness, they did not listen.
They too were not interested in anyone who would disturb their routine of life. (Genesis 18:20-30)
Why?, the message was not popular among the inhabitants of these cities.
Were they more concerned about what their neighbors would think of them if they showed interest. Or perhaps they feared that they would have to make changes in their lives that they were unwilling to make. Apparently, they enjoyed their licentious life-style. (Jude 7) So up to the day when their destruction did come, they suspected nothing and did not grasp what was about to happen.
Jesus compared the responses of our day to those of the days of Sodom and Gomorrah. (Matthew 24:37-39)

I find much of GL's content interesting. I note a lot of the scriptures he quotes and they make sense. At least to me.
I agree with Benhilton, GL forgot to put a question mark and instead used a full stop, but nontheless it still sounds like a question when you say it out loud. So what! We can't all be Grade A English students! After all, this is a Q & A site, not an entrance examination to a top grade university!
Maybe if a lot of you took more note of what he/she says then perhaps he/she may answer more. From my corner all I see is a lot of mocking and ridicule. GL is very brave to put up with all that, I don't think I would waste my time.
As to the OP, "Will you listen to God" - it is true that he does not literally speak to us. If he did would anyone really listen? From an account in the Bible, it seems that the nation of Isreal did not want God to speak to them as it frightened them. So would You listen if he spoke?

goodlife. God passed judgement upon Sodom and Gomorrah and they were consumed in fire and brimstone.
What happened to that benevolent and forgiving god we read about in the bible? How can we have free will if a certain lifestyle is not in favour of religion and punishes the 'wrongdoers'.
Is it a case of GOD GIVES YOU A FREE WILL BUT IF YOU EXERCISE THAT GIFT AND HE DOESN'T AGREE WITH IT YOU WILL BE PUNISHED?????
What a ridiculous pastime religion is.

^^ Semantics old boy, semantics! - (with more than a whiff of pedantry). Others know what I mean, why not you? Of course I'm only a 'charlatan' otherwise I could play you at your own game and tell you about the old English root-word Hearken from which comes hark and it's connection to old German, lusten; 'seeking by enquiry', but what would be the point? As my old granny used to say "There's none so deaf as those who don't want to hear".
I could also mention by the way, Dame Evelyn Glennie, the world's leading percussionist and J.S.Bach (in later life) both profoundly deaf; how do they 'listen' to music?
