'Cos he's a right sadistic bar steward.
Why wouldn't it allow suffering ? Whatever we are here for presumably we need to find our own solutions and not have a deity as a sure safety net ensuring we can do any daft thing we like. The system runs as it runs; continuous adjustment seems not to be required. And anyway categories such as good and bad are a human invention. You have no idea whether a deity would recognise that split.
Please try explaining why any god of any description would permit the birth of deformed and/or suffering babies.
Atalanta....cos 'it' can?
Why wouldn't they ?
Some feel that they have no need for God because they find many puzzling issues in life incompatible with belief in a loving God. For example, they may ask: ‘Why do good people have to suffer?

Why are some innocent babies born deformed?’ ‘Why is life so unjust?’ Those are serious questions indeed, and finding satisfying answers to them can have a deep impact on our life. But instead of quickly blaming God for such problems, But not seeing how God’s Word, the Bible, can shed light on this subject.
If we assume the existence of a god that created everything except itself then it must have created suffering ....or have I missed something
Goodlife, You need to be more careful when you're copying stuff to paste here. Your post is garbled. If the bible can justify what man perceives as the injustices in life, as you imply, why don't you tell us what it says about the deformed babies you mention?
Goodlife, the bible can shed light on almost everything but you have to set light to it first..
Well, it is sad when we see deformed babies, but really when you get down to the nitty gritty, it is humans that cause it, not God.

Going back to the 60's and thalidamide. It was not God who created the drug - it was man. God did not make the woman take the drug, she chose to. Therefore it was down to human error - not God given.

Babies born today deformed is usually down to man again - look at the contamination from dropping bombs! Women smoking and drug taking during pregnancy.

So I don't blame God. I blame the human race for their inhumanity!

locusts we often talk about freedom and God gifts that give within the law. but God is blame for all the fault put on the create (God) for all the problems and the suffering which goes on in this world _but they forget to the many problem is could by humans in the first place. Because of man's wickedness and their failure to listen .to the oncoming destruction ahead. the Bible have forewarned humans in the past.but they did not listen.(the flood-pharaoh and the plagues.sodom.Jesus for warned israelite to leave Jerusalem because Jerusalem would be annihilated because of the Romans returning to destroy the(city) israelites in 70. C.e but once again they did not listen to the message.once again we have a message from the Bible for a prediction ahead of the horseaman of pocalypse revelation 6 ,1.8 ...2 timothy 3. 1.6 ??
So as usual god gets all the credit for the good stuff and man gets the blame for the bad stuff...no need for satan then...what a relief.
Pain is the counterpoint of pleasure, grief the antithesis of joy. When God made the world he didn't sweat the little things(well, little to him, anyway).
Everything is for the best in this the best of all possible worlds.
idiosyncrasy, babies were born deformed long before the advent of modern medicine. What is God's advocates' excuse for that?
Many things are self-inflicted others are unexplained. Many areas of science such as neurology are still little understood but to suggest as a rational argument that an afflicted person is suffering from a form of God punishment is frankly, silly.
Sandy, this 'best of all possible worlds' could be improved...
Naomi@//babies were born deformed long before the advent of modern medicine. //

Hiroshima, Chernoble and man's inhumanity to man has caused a lot of deformities and diseases.

Centuries ago the cause may have been malnutrition, unsanitary conditions. In past times women took all kinds of remedies to help prevent pregnancies or even to cause miscarriage. These too brought about deformities.
Depends which god you're talking about - there are several brands competing for your money. The Catholic church has grown fat & rich on suffering - the invention of Purgatory was a marketing masterstroke.

Are you trying to claim that there would otherwise be no deformities? Such a claim would be complete rubbish.

The fact is that it is completely normal for random mutations to happen at every phase of life. Without them there wouldn't be so much opportunity for evolution. Most mutations have no effect, while some lead to advantages and some cause disease, particularly if the offspring receive a copy of the mutation from both parents.

Some mutations lead to advantages in a single copy but disease with two copies. Cystic Fibrosis is one such example where a single copy of the mutation confers a resistance to Tuberculous.
