There have been several periods since the JW group was formed in the 1870's that Armageddon was near. Why was the decade leading up to 1975 a key prediction time for the 'end'?

The latest edition of Watchtower once again makes a grim prediction. Are the leaders of the group going to be correct this time?

//There is a saying, "If you want the truth, get it from the horses mouth".//

So who's horse are you betting on then? 'Cause when it comes down to getting it directly from the horses mouth, your horse is hoarse . . . of course.

Gromit - thanks for your explanation. Those goalposts have been shifted around then...

Goodlife - Do you think that the media portrayal of the organisation is unfair? I shall take a look at the JW website regarding prophecies through the decades and come back to you. The link I attached suggests that there has been some retractions....

Hands up those who would be more than a little bit curious to see what a new kingdom with a select group of beings would look like? Sounds good doesn't it? Doesn't it?

62@Sectarian religionists in the past persuaded themselves that the destruction of the sun, moon, stars and earth was at hand, and did many foolish things that brought ridicule upon them and made the subject of the end of the world one that a smile of incredulity or that was carefully avoided.

The things done were foolish because they were not the things which God’s Word tells us.

The subject of the end of the world is not a crazy, crackbrained idea meant for only religious fanatics to snap up, resulting in silly conduct that brings the jeers of the world. The end of the world is scientific.

It does not spell the destruction of God’s material universe which he spent measureless time to bring to glorious existence.

But two things can be answered relating to when things would occur in fulfillment of God’s purpose. First, that Jehovah has a timetable; and second, that he alone fixes it, and his servants cannot expect to be given precise advance information of his times or dates. (Matthew 24:36)
Then why do you lot keep erroneously naming the date, making fools of yourselves time and again.?
\\ and his servants cannot expect to be given precise advance information of his times or dates. (Matthew 24:36) //
So why do you bother predicting the end of the world? surely it's not so that in the distant future the JW's can say "see we were right !"
you are not prophets, you're crystal ball gazers.
//Why was the decade leading up to 1975 a key prediction time for the 'end'? //

If memory serves - and I'm tired now so memory might fail me - according to the JWs 1914 was once the key date for the beginning of the end - but considering Jesus said 2000 years ago that his listeners would experience the end - oops, slight error there - the beginning of the end doesn't necessarily mean that the end is imminent. Life is for living. Enjoy.

^ indeed the beginning of the end in this instance must involve numerous lengthy phases.....

It would be like the ant trying to understand man’s beginning and God’s purpose in putting humans on earth, So get on and enjoy life why you can.

The importance to true Christians is that the Bible is the only record that accurately lists all the periods of time back to the creation of man, and even beyond.

No other document does this. That is why true Christians can have such confidence in all matters of Bible prophecy that contain time features.

Jehovah is the Great Timekeeper. He has a set time for every purpose. When he promises a new world of things we can for a certainty, exactly on time, such prophecies will be fulfilled.

True worshipers today do not have the anxiety of world, for they know that their God, Jehovah, is guiding them in paths of righteousness, and that he tells them in advance what to expect and when to expect it.

The Lord Jehovah will not do a thing unless he has revealed his confidential matter to his servants ..............As Amos 3:7 states.

The choice is not between being a atheist and believing in any religion. It is not as simple as that.

However, the reasoning that prompts such a course of action is based on the sound and unchanging principles of the Bible.

//the Bible is the only record that accurately lists all the periods of time back to the creation of man, and even beyond. //

Nonsense.
