Why Are You An Atheist
62 Answers
Since being on this site it appears that 9 out of 10 are atheists. So just out of curiosity, I wondered why? Have you always been one? If not, what made you reject belief in God? I would love to hear your views.

I am not an atheist. I was brought up within a Christian family and attended church regularly.
You know what. Being an atheist is beginning to appeal to me.
I don't recall atheists knocking on my door constantly and asking me to follow their doctrine.
I don't see atheists constantly trying to shove their unsolicited doctrine down the throats of others on this site either.

Mibn2..."and your real purpose in life would be to....annoy atheists?".
I would disagree. Goodlife annoys Christians also, proselyting his peculiar non Christian sect's strange and outlandish views.
Retrocop.....Re your last paragraph. We must be reading different posts here regarding atheists and the "shoving their unsolicited doctrine down our throats". i certainly see many of them here pushing their pretty feeble arguments. I do of course exclude the posts of a few erudite atheists who give cogent arguments for their beliefs (or rather the lack of them). ;-)

Birdie@
You may be an atheist, but from my research on atheism I stand by my previous comments.
I have researched numerous sites, both atheist and religious.
Also having listened to various exponents of the New Atheism, I feel that I have a reasonable understanding of what they represent. So, just as you atheists on this site feel that we who believe are poor misled, unintelligent,
and mindless; I find that the propaganda spouted by such as Fry and Dawkins is just as gibberish rubbish as you think the bible expounds.

//I would love to hear your views.//
No you wouldn't. As you proceeded to reveal...
//I have researched numerous sites, both atheist and religious. //
If you researched 5 blogs, you merely have the views of five people.
You actually read __?___ blogs?
If you, additionally, researched 8 forums, read 50 athiest viewpoints on each that's 400 *posts* but if they all fall into one category, like dismissing theists as idiots then that is still only one atheist stance, out of many.
You found ___?___ categories of atheist viewpoints, ranging from _____ (n correspondents) to ______ (n' correspondents).
A statistical breakdown of how other atheists behave would be useful to us, to see how our own views compare. People appear to be arriving at atheism via diverse routes.
Oh and people like yourself do wonders for our cause. Very well done.
