Does it matter to whom?
Does to some. It wwould be evidence of something more than everyday physical experience and gives credence to religious belief.
I would have just replied "it clearly didn't happen, its just a ridiculous fairy tale, move on"
Of course it matters. If it were proved He didn't we'd lose our Easter Day and Whitsuntide (now late spring) bank holidays.
Interesting question. I found a blog once that asked what were the dealbreakers in religious beliefs....ie what were the things that were at the actual core of what a person believed as an individual, not as doctrine of an organised religion.

To answer you question I would need to know “matter to whom” and what is meant by “matter"
How can it possibly matter, when it didn't happen ?
I would seem that at the time the Bible was written, the words, 'nanner nanner' and 'bazinga' had not yet been invented.

My first reaction was , Christianity would not exist and probably neither would
Islam as that developed as a reaction to Christianity. Similarly the other world religions may have been influenced . The history of the world would certainly have been very different. Whether it would have been for better or worse is a another matter.

it matters to him ; he's a theologian ....

er it doesnt seem to matter to the last Bishop of Durham - when he went - to heaven probably - the people of Durham were asked what they wanted in the next one, and tended toward ... a bishop this time who believed in God would be a good idea

That one was the fella who looked on the Resurrection as a trick with a bag of bones - oh come on Modeller you know all this......
and yes jesus is only witnessed after the resurrection by those who believe so it ( resurrection) may not be historical

O god I cant believe i am writing this in Lent to someone who reads the bible in aramaic - an easter miracle perhaps
Whether it was a true event does not matter to a theist. Religion is such that one's own belief is conveniently drawn to derive comfort even where there is a complete lack of evidence to support that belief.

To an atheist it is of less significance.
Save me an Easter Egg I'll be back Monday.
Ag, that's the most polite way of saying, theologians need a crutch to get thru life, I've ever seen.

Naomi I believe it matters a great deal to believers. ! It's fundamental to their belief ! Without it Jesus was no more than just another OT prophet and a poor one at that as his ministry only lasted less than three years.
You believe what you want to believe. I believe you're wrong.

Peter I
If Christianity had never existed we would still be celebrating the return of Spring by worshiping an erect penis penetrating a virgin
(or expressing your sexual desire by dancing round the Maypole and trying to catch attention of the virgin May Queen , as it is more politely known)

Peter Pedant Who are you talking to " it matters to him ; he's a theologian ...? "
You don't know who asked me the question ! I don't know for sure either .
Although I would guess it was the Baptist minister who runs the monthly tea and cakes social group and I'm invited because I'm an Atheist and he wants someone to provoke the believers into defending their faith.

The believers should be constantly provoked.
