Jw's....confused.

My daughter is having her adopted daughter christened. All the family has been invited, including my Jehovah's witness nephew and family. They have refused to attend due to religious reasons.
BTW, it's going to be a catholic ceremony, as her husband is one.
Could anyone enlighten me on what those reasons are?

Quite mild offences, such as disbelieving the Watchtower, smoking and fornication are considered suitable for disfellowshipping. The shunning is meant to apply not only to friends of that person, but even close family members.
So..... if you tell a JW, when they knock on your door, that you have been disfellowshipped, they will immediately turn around and run back down your front path, vaulting the front gate if necessary.

Jo....my experience in the past is that t dangerous to partake of any conversation with JWs on the doorstep, as they are highly trained to objection handling.
I tried to be clever once, years ago, by saying Boker Tov
( Good Morning ) and explaining that I was Jewish. This was a huge mistake as they said...."Oh thats wonderful, so you are familiar with Judean-Christian belief system then ?"

JWs are no better and no worse than any other religion.
They are always polite and sincere and although not my cup of tea (being an atheist and all) but I treat them as I do anyone else of a religious or non religious persuasion.
It is quite well known what they do and do not allow within their religious remit and a Google will give lots of information.
But it is interesting that the issue of ingesting or recieveing of whole blood is relatively easily got around nowadays with plasma and blood in its separate constituent parts. As one of them once told me, if it hadn't been for the insistence that JWs not get blood that medicine has progressed a great deal which has helped everyone and not just JWs
