What Is R&s For?

Given that any religious or spiritual question arouses extreme venom from some, what would be an acceptable subject matter to post on here?
If I am the cause of so much annoyance, why read my posts? Why respond to them? Why not leave it to some who might actually be interested?
Why scare people off with your blatant abuse and ridicule?

Hi Theland - I'm not a regular contributor to this board, but perhaps I can try to help. Many people are comfortable with their own personal relationship with their god. I include myself in that. I feel no need or drive to tell people about that relationship , or how it brings pleasure and confidence to me. I'm very happy to discuss that relationship with other...

They don't arouse extreme venom. It seems to me that people have given up with your questions. You're not interested in debate, you are here to preach and most don't like being preached at.
Accept that people simply do not believe in what you believe in and you might find they have put much more thought into that than to just blindly following what they are told to follow.

The crucial difference is between a closed mind and an open one.
I'll debate religion/spirituality/morality with people who have shown they are amenable to persuasion and logical discussion - where there is give and take on both sides.
I won't bother with (at least not beyond a cursory dismissal) people who are so convinced of their own inherent rectitude that they will not admit even a scintilla of doubt into their minds. That's just boring and pointless.
I'll leave you to decide which of the two categories you fall into.

R&S is the place to discuss religious and spiritual matters.
Often a good place to start with any discussion is to define the terms inherent in and upon which the discussion is based and from which the discussion can productively proceed. Religion is a mine field for rational discussion because at its core religion is based on assumptions, presumptions and follows largely from a pretense of knowledge in an attempt to take advantage of and capitalise on another's ignorance and fear. Religion's purpose is not to educate but rather to indoctrinate those who would rather be told what to think than learn how to think. Not everyone takes kindly to such abuse of those who are victims of a lifetime and generations of the same, particularly those who recognise they are themselves recovering from such abuse. Not everyone chooses to remain the victim. Navigating these streets successfully often relies on ones willingness to look both ways.

Personally I think you have a point about the personal stuff, Theland. But I do get less than impressed by posts that tell me to go look at this video or read that long article/text. Discussion ought to be between those taking part (with optional reference links to back up evidence, rather than another's opinion, if desired). Otherwise it starts to look less like debate and more like a lazy attempt at recruitment to a favoured religion.
But as one might expect, the "Religion & Spirituality " forum is for discussing religion & spirituality.

Theland if, as you say, you are abused and ridiculed, why do you continue to post? If you consider your message is vital then the abuse and ridicule shouldn't bother you, if you just want to preach and refuse to answer questions then you must expect R & A. You also have the option of going elsewhere. We respond to you in the vain hope of getting a response from you.
The thing is that you are so utterly convinced that you are right that you are not prepared to countenance the possibility that you could be wrong. So why even bother? You're going to your heaven, whatever that is, so why do you even care about anyone else? I truly hope that you are the only person there because, if heaven is full of people like you, it'll be hell for the rest of us.
It's hard to take religion seriously, especially when one lot of holy men desecrate the church of their chosen god and further, murder at least 235 (at last report) because their fantasy differs slightly, following up with shooting at ambulances dealing with the wounded.
It might be best if the faithful kept themselves to themselves and let the rest of the world try to develop.
