Just wondering if anyone here has renounced or changed their religion, and why? What religion did you change from/to? Interested in other people's experiences.

tamborine //Betcha all celebrating this Christmas//

The Northern Winter Solstice was celebrated long before the church imposed its corrupted meaning. The traditional centrepiece of the decorated tree has absolutely nothing to do with Christ.

Moreover, even if there were more than myth to Christ, there is plenty of evidence to show that He could not have been born in mid-Winter.

The Christians also try to claim the Vernal Equinox fertility celebration as their own. They couldn't even manage to change the name from the obvious reference to fertility, while references to eggs and rabbits persist to this day.
beso, I think there was a method in their madness. The church figured that if Christianity gave people the opportunity to celebrate pretty much as they were accustomed to celebrate, those people would be more likely to listen.... and they were right. Smart move!
I used to go to Sunday school and Baptist church. When I was very young I thought I'd actually seen god. Turned out he was the coalman :/

I only go to church now for funerals, but don't mutter along with the prayers or hymns.
I'm an atheist now.
I go to church for funerals but going to the pub after ... that's the real event.
Haven't read all through this thread, but Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe became Jewish and I know personally several friends who have become Roman Catholic - I've often contemplated it myself.

Would you be so kind as to give us a few details of these 'celebrations'.
Khandro, //I've often contemplated it [becoming Roman Catholic] myself. //

Why?
n. A lot of people I admire are/were Catholics, people like Thomas Merton and several of my friends.
There is no space here, but there's even an explanation of the process on wikihow;
https://www.wikihow.com/Become-Catholic
More 'how', but some 'why' too.
Khandro, I don't see any answers to 'Why?' there.
So many hate the GOD that they don't believe in.
Wonder if Santa and the Tooth Fairy are also on the hit list as they are often quoted to strengthen the atheist argument what a waste of time, hating something or somebody that you don't believe in?
What a puzzle.
How can you hate something that you don't believe in?
I was raised in a strong RC family and did the full Monty all the communion, confirmation, altar boy crap but I never really saw the point in any of it and did it mainly to please my Mum. The day I got my first pay packet I told Mum and Dad that I was done with the church, they weren't happy about it but from that day the only times I've been in a church are for weddings, christenings and funerals.
Well Roman Catholicism is a cult and nothing to do with Christianity, or the Bible. No wonder you left. Lucky you.
A narrow escape.
Could you answer my question please, Theland.
Theland tends not to answer questions Tills, just preaches nowadays.
It's always interesting to read others views of something they have nothing to do with - either ever or now. The words used are quite base and unnecessary at times.

My way of living is tolerance and my beliefs are mine alone, goodness I've even been called a child abuser because of them. Gave the children a laugh though, so not all bad.

Now, I'm in a cult, things are looking up.

naomi; As I said, it's called wikihow, I don't think they do a wikiwhy :0)
Don't worry about it Mamy. My mum became 'born again' and my dad was adamant she'd joined a cult :-D
No. I won't Ummmm.x
I wanted to be a nun after I saw the film, The Conspiracy of Hearts, and I'm not even a catholic. :-)

It was a good film.
