Ab Atheists

Why is it that when debating with/talking to bible believers, you can just KNOW what phrases that they are going to come out with. Its spooky, its almost as if they have been brainwashed and just repeating what other believers have told them!
Heres a few that regularly crop up here and in real life
1) But where do you get your morals from?
2) Prove God DOESNT exist
3) It takes faith to be an atheist
4) Atheism is a belief
5) Evolution is only a theory
6) Darwin recanted on his deathbed
7) You're taking it out of context
8) How did something come from nothing?
9) There are no atheists in fox holes/sinking ships
10) But that's Old Testament
11) Its your choice if you go to hell.
12) God didn't create hell for humans but for satan and his demons
That's just a few of the top of my head, I'm sure there are more. Please add them to the list.

I attend Mass on Sunday mornings with my wife, and I guess the friends we have there assume I am a Christian, and I have no problem with that. I would not be a hypocrite about it - if asked I would confirm that I don't believe in God, but that hasn't happened yet.
As far as debates on here, the 'serious' Christians have their views, which I respect of course, but I do dive in when they are being pompous and ignoring any attempts to debate with people.
I think the Christian faith encourages broadly similar belief systems in its followers, which tends to lead to their arguments being similar as well.
As an atheist, I enjoy the luxury of having nothing to defend, or to encourage other people to believe in, and I am delighted to live my life without the endless questioning of how a 'loving' God can allow such horrible things to happen to his 'children' on a minute by minute basis.

woofgang - // As someone who believes in god I, too, enjoy the luxury of having nothing to defend..... //
Interesting.
If I believed in your God, and tried for a nanosecond to reconcile his advised love for me, along with the shedloads of garbage he has rained down on me in my life, I would be struggling for ever.
And I speak as someone whose life has been relatively fabulous compared with a lot, so I don't know how on earth they go on!

Actually, this post isn't as flippant as some might think. Back in the day when I was a fundy xtian (when I was young and gullible and uneducated) I actually used some of the sayings above when talking to unbelievers. For instance I was told that Darwin recanted on his deathbed (he didn't) and repeated it myself.
It actually dismays me now to see others repeating the same carp that I did 30 yrs ago when I knew no better.

Nailit, it seems to me you have been exposed to 'Christians' that felt the need to justify their faith.
Perhaps remember that many have faith and dont wish to impose it on others and that in my book is fine. They corss the line when they question my 'faith' as an non believer and deserve everything I can muster to argue against them.
However arguing against someone of deep religious faith is the same as arguing gains someone of deep political faith; yu are going nowhere!
