First of all many thanks to all for your recent sentiments.
I just have to affirm my belief in the fact that our society benefits entirely from our Judeo Christian heritage.
In spite of various apostasies, most notable being the Roman Catholic Church with its Inquisition, but not exclusive to them, the true biblical Christianity shone through, and helped in no small way to influence the whole of Western European culture. This was then exported throughout the world, to the Americas, Australia and New Zealand, and had a tremendous influence of the rest of the world, to such an extent that our culture is now the benchmark that other societies try to emulate.
These are just examples of how Christianity has benefited the whole world.
It is a shame that atheists unthinkingly believe that abolishing this treasured belief would make for a better world.
In our present day society, Christianity is a positive influence, doing good and no harm, and holds out the promise of eternal life to those that believe and accept its true message above and beyond its earthly footprint.
Do you disagree with my views?

Mibs - I do think rationally. I need evidence to support my beliefs.
I do not have enough blind faith to be an atheist.
What is rational about a universe from nothing?
Abiogenesis?
No explanation for the origin of information?
No, your blind faith does nothing for me.
Question Author
Mibs -
An afterthought.
Have you ever used your considerable powers of logic to THOROUGHLY examine the theory of evolution?
Do it and be prepared for a bombshell to your worldview.
Also, don't mistake the religions that are not bible believing, as representative of truth. They are not, and their influence is evil and probably supports your present disdain for the transcendental.
JTH's sneering comment is directed to the bishops in the House of Lords. There are only 31 of them, for God's sake, hardly sufficient to disrupt the rule of parliamentary democracy!
Yes, it is, Jackdaw.....

I can also sneer at those elected MP's in the Lower Chamber who use their God-bothering status to interfere, too, if that is more to your liking?
Question Author
An example Jack?
An example of what?
Question Author
An example of how your life has been derailed by any bible believing Christian?
Theland, //blindingly obviously evidence for the evil that is nurtured by the rejection of God.//

How about the blindingly obvious evidence that the vast majority of the major charities work very capably without God? In fact they do far more for the world than any church ever has.
n. //vast majority of the major charities work very capably without God//
Like Oxfam and UN aid workers, trading food for sex with children?
Khandro, Ahhh, truth clearly hurts – but considering you're such an avid defender of 'faith' and the ’faithful’ no need to remind you of the less than savoury foibles of Islam - or of many of the 'workers' within the Roman Catholic church. You'll no doubt know all about those too. Can’t think why you neglected to mention any of that.
n. You not I, brought up 'major charities'.
Khandro, naomi mentioned the vast majority, which suggests there are others who require Gods help to go astray.
Khandro, //You not I, brought up 'major charities'. //

I certainly did - and you failed miserably to address the fundamental point of that post.
Question Author
I would never cast doubt on atheistic altruism.
But atheistic states? Most certainly.
If one looks hard enough one can find evidence that supports almost any preconception. That's not how reason works. Realty does not conform to fit ones preferred version of reality and belief is not an inroad to truth. With a big enough hammer one can 'solve' any jigsaw puzzle regardless of whether the pieces you choose to pound into it belong to it or not.

Your pretense of what I think and why only paves your way to nowhere.
Question Author
Your obvious intelligence is a bit hackneyed as you refuse to consider any evidence that does not conform to your worldview.
Like the cart before the horse, your conclusion precedes any investigation and unbiased appraisal of the evidence.
Question Author
Mibs - You say that is not how reason works. How then? Tell me.
Educate me as to how I should examine evidence and appraise its veracity?
If you can do that I will abandon my beliefs instantly.
Believing what you believe should never take precedence over asking what to believe. I would not ask anyone to abandon their beliefs, only to question what they believe, why and how, and to consider the potential consequences of their failure to do so.

Reason is the application of logic (the art of non-contradiction) to the pursuit of knowledge. Knowing what you know is a consequence of knowing how you know it which requires an understanding of the means and process by which knowledge is acquired and established to be in accordance with reality. It is our knowledge of reality that justifies our beliefs.

Bashing others alleged or supposed world views does nothing to add credence to your own and this applies no less to me, you and anyone else.
Theland, //your [Mibs] conclusion precedes any investigation and unbiased appraisal of the evidence.//

My conclusion didn’t precede any investigation or unbiased appraisal of the evidence. Quite the reverse, Your claim that you know the answers serves to demonstrate your failure to conduct an unbiased investigation.
Question Author
On the contrary.
However I will endeavour to prove that I have weighed up the evidence and found atheism quite foolish.
