R&S has gone a bit quiet, hope Theland's OK.
Anyway, reading this book at the moment
https://www.amazon.com/Wicca-Satans-Little-White-Lie/dp/0937958344
This guy (William Schnoebelen) is a Christian who claims that in the past he has been a Pagan, a high priest of Wicca, a Catholic priest, a Satanic high priest, a high degree Freemason, a Mormon, an alien abductee, a vampire, a Druid priest...etc, the list goes on, until Jesus saved him.!!!
This guy sells millions of books to 'Christians', is popular on the Christian speaking circuit and has thousands on his you tube channel.

After reading the first few chapters of this book I could tell that he hasn't a clue what he was talking about. (ive spent years studying all this kind of stuff) and yet people buy into this rubbish when a few simple internet searches would tell you that he is either bonkers or a charlatan.

Just why are some people so gullible?
(BTW, the book was lent to me by a friend who wanted to know what I thought of it, I certainly wouldn't have bought it)

He sells millions of books, he's not that daft is he ?
There are lots who are constantly searching for something (often they don't realise how much they already have) - then there are people like him ready to make money out of them.
Question Author
//He sells millions of books, he's not that daft is he ?//
Certainly isn't, but then I never said that *HE* was daft did I?
Maybe I ought to write a tongue in cheek tome telling how I was saved form my life of heathenism, wickedness and debauchery. A few easy quid never went amiss did they? All the more amusing if it was cynical :/
Question Author
Go for it Kval :-)
Really don't tempt me, it's teaming with god botherers down here and one got right up my nose earlier lol :)
You could equally call the Labour Manifesto, all the Harry Potter books, and all the "atheist" and "non-Christian" works of fiction, a load of rubbish bought by the gullible in their millions. This is one guy (one of the thousands of self-promoting wonderboys on Youtube) but he has a right to say whatever he wants within reason, and like all Youtube stars, he will have his following. Presuming that the only people who buy his books are Christians is gullible, to say the least- you're proof of it yourself.

You clearly have some sort of grudge against Christianity (you turned away from it years ago) and instead of moving on, you appear possibly obsessed with judging others (mainly Christians) and allowing your own negative experiences with Christianity to be a chip on your shoulder. If you simply don't believe it, Nailit, why still give it headspace?
Question Author
Your own fault Kval for going to the Bible belt lol.
I would have a field day there with the God Gang....
Seriously Nailit I could cheerfully have lost it earlier, the seer nerve of some people in astonishing.
Question Author
//but he has a right to say whatever he wants within reason//

Yes, within reason. But its not within reason to call all pagans, wiccans, druids etc satanic child abusers, child pornographers, sacrificers etc. THATS religious discrimination (at the very least)
Question Author
//You clearly have some sort of grudge against Christianity//
NO, I have a grudge (if you insist on calling it that) against people being taken for fools...no matter what the belief system.
I don't see what the problem is. Each to their own. I have been to Atlanta many times and I can't say that I encountered many God Botherers either.
You let yourself down with the title on this one- why not just call it "Gullibility"- come on, you're either looking for some adverse reaction or just a bit gullible! Some people are even gullible enough to disbelieve in God, Nailit :)

I wonder if this is perhaps less about asking why people are gullible and more about having a dig at Christians? As for your question, "why are some people so gullible", One could equally ask: why are some people gullible enough to take drugs and think they'll be okay? Why are some people gullible enough to believe when they die, that's it?

People are generally gullible because they have not had the life experiences that would give them the insight to make a more informed choice.
Question Author
// Some people are even gullible enough to disbelieve in God, Nailit :)//
Ah, ok then!
I'm not 'in' Atlanta, Atlanta is the nearest big place, I'm in a small town a ways out from that and for the most part I love the people here, they are seriously friendly and lovely, just this one today really wound me up ( it was slightly irrelevant that she was Christian although that did figure strongly in the conversation) but she could have been anything, the point that upset me would have been the same, but she was she was Christian and that's how we got talking because she was trying to lure me to her church.
Well, that's the way they do things down there. You are not going to change it.
Question Author
//she was trying to lure me//
Yep, that's the word...lure!
When Christians (of the evangelical type) try to get you to be 'saved' its evangelising. When other groups do the same its luring....

/// Just why are some people so gullible? ///

The number one rule of CONmen is "Tell people what they want to hear, and you're more than half-way there". The promise of eternal life ropes them in by the millions.
Question Author
They were 'lured' into witchcraft
He was 'lured' into Satanism
She was 'lured' into paganism
They were 'evangelised' and came to Christ!!!
Different terminology, same intention

//You let yourself down with the title on this one//
No I didn't.
//why not just call it "Gullibility"//
Ive posted it in R&S for a reason, its about Christian/religious gullibility. Not that of the general population.
//I wonder if this is perhaps less about asking why people are gullible and more about having a dig at Christians?//
Not having a dig at all, just asking a question (if that ok with you?)

//One could equally ask: why are some people gullible enough to take drugs and think they'll be okay?//
Addictions are not what are been addressed here and you know it so stop trying to derail the thread.

You took the title of my thread/OP and made it something it wasnt, try reading (and at the very least looking it up) the rest of the post before commenting.
