Last year round here there were quite a few instances of lit fireworks being thrown at ridden horses and cars and there were also instances, not local to me, of them being thrown at emergency services too. I agree that it would be a step too far to ban them completely.
Since the occult is knowledge of the hidden or paranormal, all interest in religion, or science for that matter until something's become known, is dabbling in the occult.
Folk with susceptible minds (for want of a better term) can get issues from all sorts of things. Unreasonable to disapprove of experimentation because a vulnerable few can't handle it. End up experiencing nothing that way.
Evil is what you define it as. Fancy dress and themed parties are harmless enough.
