my mother was devout christian, as a child i used to watch her eyes gloss over and she would become silent, then start jabbering in what sounded like garbled noises, it later turned out she was suffering from manic depression and possibly bi-polar as well, but the church she went to told her she was erm talking in tongues, god was talking through her...i did not believe it nor my father, he would say....god created the universe but cannot speak english, anyway she got diagnosed and was treated...the jabbering stopped.

It happens. Religious delusion is not new, through illness but that does not preclude the possibilities, that I have never personally experienced, but it is a gift for some, not all.

After strokes that affect the language centre this can happen, also with severe mental illnesses, in the past, in unenlightened times and present day bible belt America they claimed it is God,
It could easily be explained with mass hysteria effects particularly if following guided meditation disguised as prayer. People are easier to manipulate than they would like to accept.

ok, now i understand. I don't speak falsehoods, nor believe in any God, and i don;t know anyone who does.
mental illness i have and probably always will in one form or another.
