As any clergyman or anyone who has been to theological college will tell you, when taking lecture notes X is standard shorthand for Christ, so he has never been taken out of Christmas.
X on a bike!
and I'm waiting for a sensible OP.
We are celebrating the far older Pagan festival of Yuletide. This was a celebration of spring and fertility with much feasting and LOADS of Sex. The early Christians just took it over, but got rid of the Sex
& fertility bit! Much easier than starting a new festival.
To be fair to Christians, Eddie, anyone would be hard pushed to top selling ingenue impregnated by supernatural being.

Going with the let's get to the Harry Wraggin is a much easier sell to the masses, hence church only once a week and only for an hour or so.
Then pub and pump.
^ also when the date got changed between the Julien and the Gregorian calendar. We 'lost' 100 days . Did you know there were actually riots over the calendar change? People were demanding ''Give us back our 100 days'' they really thought that their lives had been shortened by 100 days!
Eddie, do your research. It was 11 days. The riots were due to people thinking that they would have to pay rents and taxes 11 days before they were due. That is why the fiscal year now ends on April 6th and not March 25th as before.
Jackdaw - do your research. ;)
Fiscal years ends 5 April.
