Just so that I don't highjack another's post....

Why is Jesus held in high esteem?
Anyone that has read the gospels with a critical eye (as opposed to the eye of faith) will see that Jesus is the antithesis of a moral human being.
He disobeys his parents and tells us that if we were to be his disciple that we have to hate our own parents.
He tells us that he hasn't come to bring peace but to divide families one against the other.
He compares a gentile that asks for his help to a dog.
He whips temple servants for selling merchandise.
He curses a tree for not bearing fruit when it was out of season (bizarre to say the least)
He condemns his enemies to eternal torture while telling the rest of us to forgive them...bit two faced if you ask me.

The list goes on. The Jesus that the gospel writers portrayed was not a decent human being.

//So you would like to be ruled by the other old wind bags that got the jobs by brown nosing and fiddle their expenses and appearance money//
WHAT? Are some people on the same planet?
Just where did I say that?
Is there any answer, even suggestion of an answer, that would satisfactorily answer your question? If bishops are described as 'fruitcakes', heaven help(!) any ABers who respond!
PS If you like being ruled by logic and reason, you'll be aware of how much is contributed by 3.25% - I don't think the bishops will be having that much of an impact.
Nailit, one of the accusations you laid against Jesus was that he disobeyed his parents; apparently this makes him immoral and indecent, in your words.

I pointed out that another part of the Bible suggested disobedient children should be put to death, suggesting it holds views similar to yours.

So where do you stand on the vital issue of disobedient children?
Chapter and verse please.
Question Author
Neveracrossword,
Just how can a post go so astray?
Gone from the teachings of Jesus to the House of lords :-)
Nailit, you were the one who introduced the bishops, saying they were deciding our future .
Question Author
//So where do you stand on the vital issue of disobedient children?//
ALL kids are disobedient at some stage in life, no need to stone them to death.

//Nailit, one of the accusations you laid against Jesus was that he disobeyed his parents; apparently this makes him immoral and indecent, in your words//

NO!, Makes him a hypocrite if anything.
Question Author
//Nailit, you were the one who introduced the bishops, saying they were deciding our future//
Why they certainly have a say in it.
Seriously, though, Nailit - is there any likelihood of you getting an answer here that would make you reconsider any aspect? Your position sounds pretty entrenched!
I don’t believe Jesus was who he reputed to have been. Cut him some slack. He was only human after all. ;o)
At 18.27 , as you don't like the bishops I thought you liked the remaining bunch of lords, you know the ones like lord hanningfield, been done for fraud but now back at the trough.

Possibly neveracrossword. It hasn't happened yet though.
Im not entrenched, just questionitive but some here see that as some kind of sin.
Question Author
baza, what the hell you on about?
Nailit, you've said a couple of times that the bishops 'have a say' in our lives. There are only a few of them and lots and lots of other peers - surely the others have a far bigger say in your/our lives? If you're going to disparage one group, you should at least be interested in the far bigger group. (PS I don't think this is particularly relevant to your OP, but you introduced the subject of bishops.)
Question Author
neveracrossword, never my intention to introduce bishops to this post, just an aside.
You may be right tho. :-)
Would be nice to get back to the thread.
Thanks, Nailit. I think we all post things that we originally think 'there's a line of argument/discussion', but sometimes it's actually only a tiny, side issue and not contributing much!
I can't add much to your OP as in my world, Jesus isn't held in high esteem and it's not something that arises often (if at all).
(a) is Theland on holiday?

(b) it’s not so much Jesus that needs a slap as his father! The Old Testament is full of the old man smiting this one, smiting that one, doing for whole cities if they looked at him crooked. In fact Jesus came as a pleasant change after centuries of smoting.
Question Author
//it’s not so much Jesus that needs a slap as his father//
No, the son needs a good slap as well BB, hes not a nice character!
As much as you would like to tie him into Buddhism, hes far from it.
//// Cut him some slack. He was only human after all. ;o) ////

P M S L
Nailit, my previous answers have disappeared! You're bashing your head against a brick wall. There's no sensible replies here; they ignore your point and try to make it some issue of House of Lords makeup.
