Why Atheists Debate With Theists

It was suggested in another thread that atheists who debate/contribute to R&S are obsessive and may require therapy. I cant speak for other non-believers but I can speak for myself.
I debate/contribute to R&S for the same reasons that the politically minded contribute to news, for the same reason that right wingers will debate left wingers. I have minimal interest in politics so don't often get involved in those debates. I also don't have much knowledge of politics but I do have some knowledge of religion and in particular the Bible. I am not obsessive, I have stated many times that I have fundamentalist Christian friends and that I work with Christians but the topic of faith/belief rarely crops up in day to day life and I rarely, if ever, think about it. But if questions of faith arise, I WILL, give my viewpoint - as I do on here.
I don't believe in God or some supernatural being, I don't believe in biblical prophecy and I don't believe in miracles...and will give my reasons why when asked. When the Bible is toted as truth I will give my reasons why I don't believe that. When the Bible is held up as a moral guide book I will say why it isn't.
Some people on here seem to have an 'obsessive' interest in other sections of the site. I wouldn't say that they needed 'therapy'. We all have our own interests and mine happens to be R&S mainly because its something that I know a little about.
Hope this helps ;-)

//The Creation requires a Creator, yes? //
Several problems with that assumption.
1) You are assuming that the universe is a creation.
2) It doesn't answer who created the creator.
3) It assumes that 'YOUR' God is the creator. Why not Allah or a Hindu God? Why not multiple Gods? Why not a demon impersonating a god?
4) If a deity created our universe then it appears to be a malevolent one that set up a creation whereby nature eats nature to survive and causing much suffering.
The list could go on but I'll leave it there.
Bet you don't. :-)

;-)
V 02:30 Mon - I believe God is good because He loves us enough to forgive us our sin at great cost to Himself.
OK Naomi?
1) The universe is a creation, even according to atheist scientists. It had a beginning about 13.8 billion years ago. It is not past eternal.

2) The Creator does not abide within His own Creation, but is spirit, and eternal. He is not a created being but is the uncaused cause of everything material..
Yes God is the Creator, not Allah or other impersonators.
Why, what does it matter to you who don't believe in anything?
4) You claim to know the bible. A malevolent God? With your knowledge you can surely answer that one yourself.
Atheist - I do not think I am more clever than anybody else. Mediocre? Probably. Idiot? Maybe.
I only know that nothing comes from nothing, and I don't care how many letters somebody has after their name, if they abandon common sense or preach outside of their field of expertise, the it is legitimate for me to call it out. Yes?
Please find me a convincing paper or video that will convince me that God is not required.
Playing Devils Advocate I have been unable to find one.
But then after all, I am only a mediocre idiot.
Nailit - You still puzzle me.
Do you post on here to gain knowledge? If so how could you when you obviously have all of the answers already?
Do you, post on here for the sport? Hunt the Christian? The next best thing to a blood sport. Trip them up, embarrass them, mock them, and pick up a few disciples along the way, Atheist being I think, a new recruit to the cause.
Just what do you want?
And not the only one Theland, welcome to my club;-)

Hope health and life is improving for you.
Atheist - You said I am not cleverer than our finest scientists and philosophers.
Of course I'm not. Never claimed to be.
But does brilliance in one field,of study automatically impart brilliance in other fields of study?
I think not.
Krausse, Hawking, Dawkins, have all,at some time or other abandoned common sense to push their theories.
That is not legitimate.
Do you agree?
1Ozzy - which club is that? The Lepers to which I have been assigned ? (Unclean, unclean, unclean!)
No Theland, not the unclean leper club.

The mediocre idiot club.
After many years of being at the helm I wish to resign my presidency and I'm hoping you will take control and steer us mediocre idiots along a meandering path that we all enjoy, while stopping occasionally to sniff the flowers.

ps: Hope you and your family are doing well.
1ozzy - I would be honoured to lead the mediocre idiots in our fight for equal rights, and free pointed hats.
Breathe in the freedom, never having to justify ourselves. ( rolls fingers over lips to make the typical blubber blubber blubber sound so popular with the fans).
Did you know lager tastes better when drunk in bare feet?
Being a lager expert,,
