Why Would An Atheist Read The Bible?

Why would a creationist read The God Delusion?
Anyway, Ive set myself a goal (always lived my life by goal setting, it focus's the mind) to read the entire Bible...Genesis to Revelation...in 3 months!
Ive read the entire Bible before, but forgot much of it, and after a few conversations at work (with Evangelicals) Ive decided to read the lot again. After 14 days I am currently at the first few chapters of Deuteronomy. Have struggled (but persevered) through meaningless chapter after after chapter of animal sacrifices in Numbers to meaningless chapter after chapter of ridiculous laws in Leviticus, with endless repetitions of genealogies and the endless repetition of killing animals because it is a *Pleasing aroma before the Lord*
I can quiet understand why Bible believers have never read the Bible.
Its Boring.
Its sick
Its Immoral
Its irrelevant
But I'll read it!
Can Bible believers understand why I will?
(for the next couple of months at least)
;-)

I have an open mind, and try to absorb the science as best as I can.
Where science cannot answer questions, I do not fall back on to a default position of, "God of the gaps," as some might do.
But looking at the science is difficult as so many scientists are also locked into a similar mindset to Nailit, and turn a blind eye to the weaknesses in their support for abiogenesis and evolution.

//Your starting point is that there is no God, can't be, never was//
Wrong!
My starting point, as a teenage, fundamental and evangelical Christian, was that there IS a God and the Bible was his inerrant word. It was through open minded inquiry that I came to reject that position. Far from been closed minded I *reluctantly* had to accept that I was wrong.
If anyone now presented me with evidence for God then I would have to revaluate my present position.
To date no evidence for God (much less the Christian God) has been forthcoming.
My staring point has never been there is no God. My starting point is ''where does the evidence lead me''.

//Nailit - So do you share Naomi's position, and just say, "I don't know," to each of the big questions?//
Of course I do. Because theres gaps in knowledge doesnt mean that Genesis 1 is factual any more than a thousand more creation myths are factual. And if your own belief is required to fill in these gaps then despite what you say, you are falling back into the God of the gaps.
