In answer to Jim F:
"Basically, people who aren't Christians are free to believe whatever they like, however stupid!" I absolutely agree with you there, Jim. And why shouldn't they? Haven't we all been given free choice to believe whatever we want?
"And what about all the people who died before Jesus was even born?" I have already stated my belief that God will be infinitely fair, and people will be judged according to the light they had. When Christ died and worked the great work of redemption, those who put their faith in him (the dying thief being the first one, and millions since) will be saved eternally.
"Where did their souls go? What about Adam and Eve? Did they make it to heaven? If so, how did they manage it?" Your desire to find the truth is inspiring, Jim- why don't you start some threads on these questions? My personal belief is simply what the Bible states. We are not told whether Adam or Eve turned to God in repentance, but if they did, they will surely make it to heaven.
"And what about Deuteronomy 14:2? Or doesn't the Old Testament count?" You are speaking of the Jews, as God's chosen people, I take it? Jesus came in as the Messiah of the Jews, and those who accepted Him will find eternal salvation. Of those who reject Christ, the Bible says, "And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. " Hope this helps your understanding.
