Since moving to a high rise with limited access, I no longer get the religious door knockers/God Gang trying to sell me Jesus. Pity really as I used to enjoy trying to engage them in conversation and watching them back up the path as I quoted chapter and verse back at them..
(As an ex evangelical, it NEVER leaves you)
Most of the time I actually had a desire to debate/learn/exchange ideas with them but the feeling was not mutual...they just wanted to convert people and had no interest in other points of view.
I was never one for shutting the door in the face of someone who believed that they were doing good. Much rather have a mutual conversation.
However one afternoon we had a family gathering at my mums when the JW's were doing the rounds. I was sent to the door to see them off.
I politely asked them if they could come back the following week as we were in the middle of an occultic rite and were about to sacrifice a cockerel.
They actually apologised for disturbing us (at an OAP's bungalow) and promised to return the following week
(never did return. EVER)

Strange that! They promised as well.
Any stories re God Gang Door Knockers?

When I lived in Essex we had regular infestations of Mormons, one incredibly hot summers day two older men turned up with a young lad no more than 10 he was nearly fainting from the heat. I asked them in, offered then a cold drink and read them the riot act for putting a child at risk of heat exhaustion. As far as I was concerned they might as well have beaten the child. My opinion on their worship of a so called loving God wasn't exactly tempered with kindness. I let them out but advised them I would be reporting them to social services.
I have seen them with the Lincoln Imp on.....is that a religious door knocker?
Rowan are you sure they were LDS? that sounds more like JW?
PS I don't like unsolicited calls of any kind and always just say no thank you and shut the door

Had JW's at the door in winter with babies. Unreal.

JW''s often had kids in tow.
Learning the ropes I suspect....
When I was a young lad in the 50's we used to have american twenty-something men turning up in the park trying to befriend us and play ball games. We never actually got involved with them; they were obviously up to no good.
they can't get in our place as we have security doors, and a gate on each balcony, though somehow one day two guys must have tail gated their way in with another tenant, and did bang on the gate, i was polite and told them wasn;t a believer, they did go away after a while, but think they must have gone to every flat.. and tried it on with the other tenants.
Definitely LDS their temple was just down the hill from where I lived. The JWs were too scared to come after I came to the door with blood down my apron and on my hands, just prepping some defrosted steak and kidney and tipped it down myself. They didn't know that
This is a well-known JW ploy: to take a smartly dressed child with them so that people are less likely to be abusive when they knock because a child is there.
They had badges saying they were from the LDS....
I show them the Mezuzah on my door frame and they do a runner!

LDS. JW's....
Its sad. All religious groups indoctrinate their kids.

Had JWs come round the block once, I escorted them from the building with a broom. The dotty old lady act works every time.

A child is born free and bought up in chains.
A statue of the Virgin Mary draped with rosary beads in full view in the hallway also works well.

The occult ceremony of sacrificing a cockerel worked a treat as well ;-)
My parents lived on the top floor of a low rise block of flats and weren’t usually bothered by unwanted callers, but one time a JW knocked and mother was so impressed that he walked up 3 flights of stairs that she took a book to look at. It remained unread on the sideboard for a long time and no one ever came back to collect it

Not so much against the Mormons I find tho.

A statue of Cernunnos works well...
Poor bar stewards should paint a target on their asses.... It's too easy sometimes
