Who else here believes that the Bible is inerrant?
Almost on every page there are discrepencies and contradictions.

I accept that there are those who accept the Bible as The Word of God but written by man.
Therefore having differing accounts (Particularly in the gospels).

But is there/are there, any Evangelicals about now?
Those that believe EVERY word of the Bible is inerrant

nailit; saying, "absolute waffle" is no form of argument or discussion.
As you say, Nailit, the Bible is "the Word of God but written by man", the important point though is that this is "Divinely inspired" and these men were led by the Spirit of God to write what they did. As you will know, many of the prophets in the Old Testament hardly knew what they were writing about when they spoke of Christ's sufferings and the work of redemption. I think by evangelicals you actually mean literalists, who don't understand the difference between the old and new testaments and the new covenant set on by Christ. I have never come across anyone like this in my lifetime- presumably someone who would take the old testament scriptures and interpret them in a similar way to a Jew, but also the new testament scriptures? Perhaps I haven't understood what your question actually is. But best wishes with your research.
I believe there is no God and the bible is just a collection of middle eastern goat herder stories. I am open on this but with no proof after all this time plus the inaccuracies about time and its penchant for stoning to death I am left with no option.
I will believe and follow if proved beyond any doubt.
Here you go again. You were once religious, now you're not. Fine. Think of something else to worry about.
'I believe there is no God and the bible is just a collection of middle eastern goat herder stories. I am open on this'. Well, nothing like hedging your bets.

Blessed are the Cheesemakers!
He may be referring to dairy workers in general rather than cheesemakers specifically.

For someone who was a believer ( so you say ) but now think you were 'mistaken' ; you do spend a lot of time trying to convinced others , who believe , of your now disbelief .

What you trying to prove ?
There seems to me something singularly stupid about anyone who thinks that demonstrating the lack of total factual, veracity of the Harry Potter books, somehow negates & invalidates Voldemort.
Could the Bible be taken as a guide for people in society to get along without too much friction?
Love thy neighbor, don't covet his ass, and so on.

I suppose plagiarism is a form flattery, but do you really not see the difference between the biblical old testament & J.K.Rowling?
I suspect that more people nowadays enjoy Potter than enjoy the Bible. I haven't read Potter, and have read a bit of the Bible (about as much as I have read of the Koran) and to me they are all fiction. The good thing about Potter is that it doesn't require the reader to accept the stories as true - they are just stories. If you choose the Bible as something that you believe, then you must have some pre-existing innate value system within you that enables you to assess the Bible's veracity. I.e. you don't learn from the Bible, you simply recognise something that complies with your own value system.
Atheist; I have never in my life met anyone who believes that everything in the Old Testament to be literally true, no one (as far as I know) on AB does either. The pope doesn't believe it, the Arch Bishop of Canterbury doesn't believe it, so these continuous 'straw man' arguments in the OP & from you & the rest of your your cohort seem pointless & prove nothing whatsoever, & certainly do not in any way invalidate the Christian canon.

Why do you do it, is it in the hope that you appear to be smart?
Khandro, I see a difference between the Old Testament and J K Rowling’s Harry Potter saga. For morality Rowling leaves the Bible standing.
naomi. I have never read J.K. Rowling - though I admire her stance on gender issues, (I've even written to her & got a reply) does she say things in her books like;

Honour thy father and thy mother
Thou shalt not murder
Thou shalt not commit adultery
Thou shalt not steal
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife

Fairly heavy stuff for 8 year olds.
All of that and far more, khandro. I know what I’d prefer children to read as part of their moral education.

You never read (or agreed with) any of the late Theland's posts then?
Or Goodlifes? Or (the no longer active) Clanads?
