PP, I wasn't sure if he meant a creator or the universe.

How did this god come into existence?

God knows...

// But there's something more than matter in the universe; there's consciousness. How did that get there? //

Who knows? But it could be an "emergent behaviour", ie something that arises more or less inevitably out of biological systems of a certain type.

The important thing, however, is that we don't need to know the answer now, and likewise the fact that we do not is no reason to "give up" and search for an answer which is, if anything, even more unknowable.

// Considering recent evidence obtained by the James Webb Space Telescope, the Big Bang theory is looking increasingly unlikely.  //

I'm not sure I know what evidence you mean, but I suspect that this is overstating the case. The Big Bang is well-established by multiple separate strands of evidence. It is certainly not complete, with multiple potential issues that remain unanswered, and it wouldn't surprise me if some early results from James Webb have raised further questions, or made the ones we already had that much more forceful. But that's different from suggesting that the Big Bang theory may need to be abandoned entirely.

ClareTgold; The fox is conscious of moonlight, but has no idea what causes it, - does it ever wonder, I doubt it.

The more developed human brain can observe & question, but is surely limited in what it can comprehend (?).

If AI is unlimited as some claim, perhaps it might find answers but the problem will remain;  could we understand them?

brilliant answer from sven at 02:28, I wish I had the patience!

> Why is there something instead of nothing ?

If there is something, we can evolve to the point where we can ask that question.

If there is nothing, we can't.

So, there is something ...

KHANDRO, "The fox is conscious of moonlight, but has no idea what causes it"

How can you be certain of that?

//If there is something, we can evolve to the point where we can ask that question......So, there is something ...//

Why does there need to be 'something' for us to evolve?

All dieties are human creations to control the masses. All religions have evolved from that. All believers are only slightly less athiests than the athiests. Of the 1000s of religions they beleive in on 1 more than the athiests if R is the number of religions then I don't believe in R religions, christians don't believe in R-1 religions, ditto muslims, jews etc so we are virtually all athiest anyway.

Go ask it does it know that the moon is Earth's only natural satellite. It orbits at an average distance of 384,400 km, about 30 times Earth's diameter. The Moon always presents the same side to Earth, because gravitational pull has locked its rotation to the planet. This results in the lunar day of 29.5 Earth days matching the lunar month ?  and see what it says.

> Why does there need to be 'something' for us to evolve?

The alternative to something is 'nothing', an infinite void. So there has to be something, for the question to be asked, as it has been. And then, why does it have to evolve? I refer to Charles Darwin and others but, in a nutshell, if you don't evolve then you die, because the world is not a steady state, it's changing around you through time.

All that would show is that foxes don't speak English.

How did this god come into existence?

if he did ( come into existence) then he isnt god - the person who did it might be ( depending)

see St thomas Aquinas 1280 - yes most of this has been said ( many  times)before

Foxes don't talk.. Basil may answer, but likely make no sense.

Khandro 'If AI is unlimited as some claim, perhaps it might find answers but the problem will remain;  could we understand them?'

AI is limited to shuffling/reorganising what already exists..
AGI may have a better chance at answering the 'Ultimate Question' of Life the Universe and Everything. We'll see!

All dieties are human creations to control the masses.

erm TTT's argument ( ah! bless) [ I love it when he thinks] certainly carries weight !

ter daah !

An animal can be conditioned to respond to a stimulus without knowing what created that stimulus or the technicalities behind it.

Ancient man created structures to mark the two solstices without needing to know the earth rotates around the sun, our distance from it or its composition.

TTT for Pope ! - the current one doesnt look as tho he will last
