Early followers of Christ were essentially Jews who decided that the Messiah had arrived and some of them lived ascetic lives, even abstaining from sex because it was no longer necessary to procreate. The disappointment left a void which was filled by clever types who could read and think and so analysed and edited and sought for hidden messages in the old books of the Jews and the more recent ones written by people who hadn't met Jesus but collected stories from those who had.
If we are close to the end times it will be because of the works of humans, who have multiplied to an extent which is affecting the whole planet. Doesn't need a god to explain it.

BUT - her writings 'put me down Lord' show that she wasnt praying for it, AND ecstasy 1520-1580 was looked on at the time as getting IN THE WAY of communication with the risen christ - that is her view was that it interfered with her (prayer) life.

Bernini's 'Ecstasy of St. Teresa' is an early example of Baroque sculpture. It was created by Italian artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini in 1647-1652 and is located in the Cornaro Chapel in Rome.
