Many Moslem folk oppose this (especially females) but the dirty old men who run the show prevail.  Slowly but surely the women are starting to make a stand, unfortunately it will still take a very long time I fear.

In the scale of things, the Victorian times weren't that long ago and in England some girls were getting married at 10 or 11, usually to much older men.  It wasn't until 1929 that the law changed and set the age at 16.  

There are still illegal child 'marriages' occuring in the UK and the rest of Europe within the romany gypsy community.   

It was only in 2015 that Spanish laws changed and raised the age from 13 to 16.  It is hard to believe that 4 USA states still has no minimum age for marriage - some 10 year old girls have legally married since 2000.

It is sickening to see Iran's proposals to go backwards - all children need protecting by the law, wherever they happen to be born.
