He should add the company to his next of kin on his GP record

He'll probably tell them.

I suspect that henrys202020 would like to know what will happen when his pal dies, and he lies, unnoticed, in his bed. Who would know that this has happened, and what would they do?

It's a regular worry for many people. A few options.
He could engage a befriender through Age UK who would call on him just to check in; or get a lifeline button in the hope that he might be able to press it before he actually dies. Or most simply get his milk delivered and hope the milkman reports it when it's still where he left it two days ago.

That's a comtradiction  - if you are really his pal make sure you have some contact with him at least a couple of times a week.

"Asking for a friend" maybe?

You can't "organize" a cremation without a body, you can only leave instructions, usually in a Will.    Unreported deaths do occur from time to time (very sad cases) usually discovered by delivery personnel or neighbours.

Two years undiscovered in this case :-

I think Henry is referring to the prepaid funeral plans where you can organise every bit of your own cremation and funeral service, or opt for no service.

To answer the OP - the cremation service will know when he is dead when someone informs them. He may die in hospital, or at home, or be run over by a bus. If he has organised the disposal of his mortal remains he should have left instructions in writing so that those attending his death know what to do.
