Dont be a fool all your life 9.37. Its self explanatory.

No it's not, you have provided no supporting data. Is this just an idea that you have had or is there a news story that is proposing this?

but it isnt.  this is in news, so i presume there is a news item about it today?  or did you menan to post in society and culture

in any case, no i dont

it's claimed that doctors support a ban...

Forever trying to create friction @9.44.

I'm feeling helpful today:

I don't think big people should hit little people.

09:47 I'm not the only one who has no idea what you are talking about. Why is it a sin in your world to give us some sort of clue as to what you are talking about?

It's all a matter of degree; a tap on the fingers as a clear warning not to touch something dangerous never did any harm.

TORATORATORA, a link has been provided for you so give it a rest.

I think terminology has got in the way. Most people these days equate a smack as the equivelent of hitting, whereas a gentle corrective tap, which is hardly felt physically can emphasise the spoken warning.

Speak roughly to your little boy,

And beat him when he sneezes;

He only does it to annoy,

Because he knows it teases.

Thankfully, times have changed.  That 19th Century advice wouldn't do now.

I'm against teaching children that violence works.

There are other ways to punish children for misbehaviour. Thing is, you have to stick with the punishment and not fall soft.

When my eldest was 14, she stole 6 cigarettes off me. I told her that each ciggy would cost her a week's spending money. At a fiver a week, that's £30.

I stuck to my guns - though i'm not certain her mother didn't cave in now and then - despite feeling bad about it by the 3rd week.

I bet it cost her lot more than that now she's a smoker.

Ridiculous. Likely part of the reason the behaviour of some kids is deteriorating each generation.

unfortunately there are a significant number of parents who want to hit their children (or do worse). child abuse is too often seen as a rare thing... it isn't.

corporal punishment does permanent damage to the relationship between parent and child and raises significantly the likelihood that a person will grow up to view violence against children as normal. people who claim "it never did them any harm" invariably turn out to be wrong. It should absolutely never be tolerated.

You haven't got a scrap of evidence to support that have you?

It might have saved Sara Sharif, or at least given a strong hint to her parents that their behaviour was socially unacceptable ....

i think growing up afraid of someone who is supposed to love you and being deprived of feeling safe in your home constitutes significant damage.

people hit children because they want to. people who don't want to do it don't do it. it's that desire to hurt someone weaker and at your mercy that needs treating.
