What use is prayer?
What does it achieve exept a nice fuzzy feeling in the mind of the petitioner? If prayer worked then why dont those of a religious persuasion pray for the end of hunger in the world or for a cure for cancer? Why is it that religious people will always tell you of the time that they prayed for a parking space and got one and yet ignore the fact that many people probably prayed for safety before their planes hit the twin towers or before they were herded into the gas chambers of Aushtwitz? Religious leaders of the world have constantly prayed for world peace.Is there any evidence that any god is actually listening? Prayer...what a joke.

No, wizard, no evidence. Commonsense tells us that if prayer worked we would have noticed centuries ago that all our religious friends are healthier, happier, less likely to die in aircrashes than we rational people are, and that their loved ones recover from illnesses quite astonishingly while those not prayed for just have to suffer and die. That prayer doesn't work is an observable fact. And why on earth should it?
Assuming its people who have a religious belief who do the praying, then it gives them the sense of doing something useful, whether it works or not doesn't matter, it helps the prayee.

I don't really think we can knock people who pray, if someone says they are praying for you, good for them, they are thinking of you, and that can't be bad.

As for World peace, the only time that;ll happen, is when the Human species has been totally wiped out, then the prayers will have been answered.
Are the people praying sincerely? Are they praying in faith, believing? Are they praying in God's Will? Are they praying in God's appointed way?

"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus"

There are many reasons why God doesn't answer 'prayer'.

You should read a good Christian biography, like that of George Muller, to see how God answered their prayers.
I can't seem to find "God's" number, is it ex-directory?

iv Prayer tunes you in

1) The purpose of prayer is as a tuning device.

2) Prayer tunes entities into singleness of being and Harmoniousness of purpose.

3) "Our God, our Guides, and fellow Spirits, we thank Thee for Thy countenance. Pray continue to abide with us."

4) "We are thankful for this past day,
And pray that we have grown along the Way;
In sleep we turn in search of Thee,
For Knowledge, Wisdom and Harmony."

5) "We thank Thee for another day,
That we may Love and Grow along the Way;
Pray guide our feet where they may go,
That we may help all others Grow."

And why do people like Ethmer pray in 17th Century English?

Does God give you more Brownie points for putting in "Thee" and "Thou"?

Does he not understand modern English?

Or is it just that it gives the prayer a stronger feeling of mystical incantation? Maybe there's a hint in there somewhere

I wonder why orbital trajectories for satelites aren't determined by prayer! - very strange considering how powerful it is

Jake...often wondered that myself about using 17th century language when praying.Very strange.I wonder if some of these people know what muppets they sound like.
One of the Wesley brothers (founders of Methodism) was once criticised for praying, being told that answered prayer was only mere coincidence.
He replied, that when he prayed, coincidences happened, and when he didn't, they didn't.
Was Shakespeare a Muppet then?
