It's just that Lighter said that there are no other inhabited planets in the universe - we are alone - and the reason that god made the stars and the heavens was to glorify himself and to enable us on earth to gauge the seasons. I wondered what other people thought. Hope that's clearer now everyone.
If those that follow the Christian path accept that god made the universe and everything contained and because we(humans) are supposed to be made in his image, can people of religion believe that god may of also created beings on other planets that are human-like or not.
It does sound to me that some people that follow the bible are narrow minded to think only humans could be the pinnacle of the creative order.
We may be just one of many designs that inhabit the universe.

The Earth is the centre of the Solar System with the Sun and other planets revolving around the Earth" . . . wrong.
The Solar system is unique made especially for us (at least the believers amongst us) . . . woops, wrong again.
All the stars we see belong to one unique universe . . . duh der.
Looks like God in his infinate wisdom created other galaxies (most of which require a very powerful telescope to see) so that we might know the time of day and the seasons . . . guess again my assumtive friends.
Intelligent design indeed . . .

Firstly, Lighter, you are very silly person.
And to Theland...
'Science offers no answer, except to promise that one day, scientific progress will provide an answer.
Now, I know faith when I see it, so if you beoieve that, you also have a faith, a blind one, I might add.'
Now you're being silly too Theland. Exactly how is belief in a book the same as accepting that one day scientists and clever types may figure things out? Scientists have demonstrable facts and quite a long track record of successes on their side. What do you have? The Bible? A book that's evolved over the centuries under many many anonymous hands. Not really the same thing is it.
As a species we can be quite clever and tend to figure stuff out eventually. Look at the ancient Egyptians, they thought the sun was rowed out every morning by Ra. People figure stuff out eventually based on observation and testable theories. We have a habit of getting there eventually.
We have to assume that there are rational explanations for everything otherwise when we come across something we don't understand we'd just say 'Ah God did that' and just give. We'd still be living in mud huts, hunting with spears and dying before we reach 30.
So far all the things that our ancestors have put down to God clever and observant people have found logical and demonstrable explanations for.
The only thing that your God has left is creation. Maybe scientists will one down figure it out or maybe they wont. But seeing as science has removed his involvement from pretty much everywhere else there is no reason to believe he had anything to do with that either.
Which begs the question - Did He ever even exist?
That was a rhetorical question by the way as I know we've all already made up our minds and this debate will go on until the end of time.

Theland, as I said to Lighter, the question doesn't ask how the universe was made.
The bible offers me no answers - or proof of anything - least of all that god made the universe especially for the people of the only planet he deemed would be inhabited to enable them to gauge the seasons. Oh .... I forgot ......and to glorify himself.
We don't know what science will discover in the future, but at least some of us have the courage to say we don't know and to keep an open mind.
Your apparently irrefutable evidence consists of an assortment of texts written by an assortment of men thousands of years ago. And you say I have blind faith!

I think you missed the bit where I said 'Maybe scientists will one day figure it out or maybe they wont'. I think that's more a statement of a possibility than a belief.
The fact remains that we are here.
If you want to attribute that to some all powerful eternal superbeing for whom all logic and reason would suggest does not exist then go for it. I prefer to file your God in with Zeus, Odin, Father Christmas, the Tooth Fairy and honest politicians.
Maybe people far cleverer than us will one day come up something that makes more sense or maybe they wont.
It makes no difference, life goes on.

I disagree about life going on. At least as it is now. With the proliferation of nukes, and nutters in Iran getting them, and oil running out, no, I think the crunch is imminent. Not unlike the scenes predicted by the Bible.
And we don't have to be scientists to say, categorically, that something does not come out of nothing. That's the starting point that all of the ASHes seem to duck.

No! It is the centre of Man's universe and that simply because that is where we find ourselves and every thing is around us.
Logic dictates that we are not alone, that there are millions of civilizations throughout the universe. But, logic also dictates that we are extremely unlikely to discover them (because of the vast expanse of the universe) unless and until such time as we develop extremely fast space travel.
