No, not an exclamation from Batman's partner but a type of faith-based urban gospel rap.
Do you think this kind of music can be well received by the youth of today seeming Hip-Hop is usually associated with gangs and crime and a certain tough image. Would it be possible to convert people, change views and in turn reduce gangland mentality?

Why is this question here and not in music?
I was trying to introduce some other religious topics and I like it in R&S :0)

It's doomed to fail, as it is music centred, not Christocentric. Another attempt by bankrupt religions to popularise their wares. In my opinion that is. But if it is just a social thing, then it won't do any harm I suppose, and may even do a bit of good, just like any other law abiding socialising does.
By the way, I too am sorry that chakka35 has left. I hope he comes back. Even though he thinks I pick daisies and fairy dust! But, hey, it his opinion. He's entitled to it. (Stung a bit though)
Do come back on here chakka35.

Didn't the Born Agains popularise their brand of Christianity by doing away with the sombre church organ and introducing guitars, drums and the happy clappy theme?
No way Christian hip hop, no way will it work.
Start rapping about Jesus, ya'll look like a jerk.
Busta Rhymes or your local vicar.
Give them the mic and see who is slicker.
Hip hop wernt made to praise the lord,
get to the third track and ya'll all we bored.
So forget it mate, stick to your hymns.
Us non believers, we enjoy our sins.
Music is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life.

New music is for a new generation so it is probable that the young people will enjoy it, although maybe not if it doesnt include guns, money and hos . Whether music of a particular style can lead to a conversion of the mind is possible no end of oddballs listened to Anthrax backwards and went out and committed a crime because the devil told them to. Some music can do funny things to me, and I wont tell you what happens when my wife listens to Barry White.

Religious mantra is not cool, even if it is rapped up (geddit). So unless Jesus drove a Hummer with his posse down to the metropolis with his bikini-clad hos on their cell phones and carrying his bling-bling smith and wesson, it is unlikely to make a convertible out of the un-convertible.

Theland, I agree.
Naomi, Oh Happy Days !
Reachey, Groovy !
Octa, Yes indeed.

Naomi - the happy clappy crowd are worshipping, "worship," not worshipping God. For example, the Australian 'Hillsong' church, releasing C.D.'s that seem more focused on a profit than spreading the word. Good music though.
Theland: I wasn't talking about commercial ventures. Someone used to bring taped recordings of her Born Again church services into the office - and happy clappy guitars they certainly were. Oh help!!

What sort of music do you have at your services?
The local C of E have fairly traditional and easily recognisable hymns. The local gospel hall has less recognisable hymns, but the style is similar to the former, and fairly traditonal.

When I mentioned Hillsong, I was referring to music that seems to me to be primarily concerned with being popular rather than being worshipful.
Theland, so what sort of music do you have at your services?
Traditional - Gospel Hall.

Infund, Coercion is forcing someone to do something against their will. I don't think this particular music has generated that much of a following to be considered as that unless they're playing it through the ice-cream wagon's speaker that travels from street to street.
Ooh, there's an idea.
At the request of a friend, I once went to a spiritualist church in order to witness the medium at work. I walked in, no sign of my friend so I took a pew hoping she would soon turn up.
The next minute some people walked in and said, " Pick up your hymn books and turn to page......"
I refused to join in (What with my velvet tones?)
The guy standing in front of me kept on motioning me to pick up the book, still no sign of my friend.
So i just pushed past everyone badly singing their socks off and scarpered.
Outside, there was my friend.
I said, "Where have you been?"
And she replied, "Out here waiting".
I told her my little story and she did nothing but laugh, knowing how I felt about religion and all and she added,
" Oh I never go in there straight away unless you want to join in with the hymns".
WELL THANKS FOR TELLING ME.
Mu daughter likes hip hop and she found the idea of Christian hip hop very funny, I think because of the usual content of the songs (drugs, ho's, explicit references etc).

But if there is only a slim chance that it might improve the situation in these inner city crime areas then good for them for at least trying to do something.

Thanks sparkly.

How about composing a song Luna?
Naomi - Can I join in and throw in the odd line?
What rhymes with "Naomi" ?

In Liverpool, it's pronounced, "Daobi."
Question Author
Sounds like a relative of Obi-Wan !

Naomi, If I was to compose a ditty it would not be with a Hippy-Hop backing track because personally that style of music does nothing for me but it would still have to have a religious or spiritual theme.

"All Things Bright.......Oh ! somebody already did that one.
Theland, that sounds like me trying to say Naomi when I've got a cold ib by dose.

Luna, that music does nothing for me either, so where ARE you going to go with this one? We've had Al Jolson, Julie Andrews and George Formby lately - all exciting stuff - I can't wait. May the force be with you. (That is what they said in Star Wars, isn't it? Or was it Superman? Or Spiderman? Or Robocop? Oh never mind, I know someone said it! May whatever it is be with you anyway).

And Theland, if you want to join in, feel free. We'll have an AB choir soon with Luna at the helm!!
