Just to spoil it all those symbols divisible by 9 are the same although they change every time

If you follow the process with any two numbers, the answer will always be 9.

Theland the symbols for 9, 18, 27 , 36 etc are always the same as each other, although they are not the same as the previous time

I can see how they are all divisible by 9 but it's how the correct symbols come up that baffles me :-) xx

The reason why it's divisible by 9 is as follows

Take your two digit number ab

this is 10 x a + b (e.g. 36 is 3 x 10 + 6)

add the two together and subtract is

(10 x a + b) - (a + b)

or 10 x a + b - a -b

which is the same as

9 x a

So your answer will always be a multiple of 9
