I presume you're talking about Christianity, in which case you can either go to a church and let other men teach you - but then of course, they'll teach you their interpretation of it - or you can read the bible and decide for yourself whether it's genuine and worth pursuing.
Of course you are never too old to learn about religion, nor are you too old to start practicing it.
It depends what it is you want to know about it. Is it just an understanding of religion in general throughout history and the world, or are you wanting to be specific and start following a path of your own choosing?
If the former then, bookshops, libraries etc. If the latter, then you probably need to visit a place of worship to find out what they are all about for yourself.

There is no age to think and learn about religion. In fact it is not in your hand, It is in the hands of Allah. Allah shows the way whoever looks for the right way. But I would say that when you have a desire about learning then you should not waste time after that. Because life is ever ending and you never know how much time you have.
As far as leaning is concerned then Internet has made it easy. But I would suggest that you should read about all the religions only then you would be able to compare and see what religion or faith gives you more practical answers in this world and for hereafter. I hope Allah help you to find whatever you are looking for and guide you to right direction.

Theland - Please tell her which bible as well. There are so many different versions.
Or shall I say what I did not say earlier that she should start with Quran which is same all over the world, Muslim prayer facing same direction all over the world, Muslim believes all the messengers from Adam to Muhammed including Jesus and Moses (peace be upon all of them), again all over the world. so she will not have to go any where else.
In the end I would say, just let her make her own mind.

I started reading the Bible to see what all the fuss was about. I eventually got past all the begats in Genesis without abandoning it and discovered where the action really gets started. Joshua.
Now I understand why there is so much religiously inspired hatred. Those who follow the teachings of the Bible lovers subscribe to the notion of a God that inspires believers to a series of bloody genocidal massacres and the worship of gold.
Read Joshua, it will inspire something in you.

I recently mocked someone for believing in God and afterwards I felt terrible for doing so, what right did I have to mock someones beliefs; none, it got me thinking. Why some people feel so strongly in God and some don't? I'm actually questioning myself into why I don't believe maybe it's because I wasn't brought up in a religious enviroment , makes me wonder if I've missed out on a wonderful experience!!

"What is the meaning of life?"

The meaning of life IS eternity. This fragment which we currently inhabit "called life" is just a part of eternity which is but a classroom from which we graduate to other classrooms along the path toward Oneness in God which is our eternal destiny. Some may reach It sooner than others but all will eventually.

"why are there so many other different beliefs and Gods?"
v Religion and church
1) The common purpose of religion is to aid the entity in its search for Truth.
2) Each entity's level of development and understanding is different.
3) It takes many different styles of religion to accommodate the growth needs of entities at various times.
4) The value of a religion can be judged by its operation and intended accomplishments.
5) Churches exist for the benefit of entities.
6) Churches are to religion what a bathtub is to water.
7) They allow the entity an opportunity to soak in the fellowship of like-minded entities.
8) Churches also allow an entity a method through which to share.
i am a Deist! (One who believes in the existence of a God, but denies revealed religion; a freethinker.)
deism (de'iz'?m, da'-)
n.
The belief, based solely on reason, in a God who created the universe and then abandoned it, assuming no control over life, exerting no influence on natural phenomena, and giving no supernatural revelation.
From my chosen path i stray,
Yet my God ne'er turns away;
For i have learned -- and understand,
That where God is -- is where i am!
