Is there such a thing as a peaceful religion?

Are there any that haven't been at odds motivated by religion?

I think most of the religions are peaceful. But few believers manipulate and try to over-write real teachings with what suits for their own ill objectives. And then a good number of people do not understand their own religion anyway because they do not bother looking into the Actual scriptures of their religion and rather depend on what they are told by the Rabbis, pastors, Imams and so on.

Someone might say that these religious leaders teach out of the real scriptures, I would say no, they give their View and interpretation. If that interpretation and view is against humanity and society then it is not in the religion and is their own understanding.

WHAT ????
Brionon's post is a typical example of what I said. He picked up one incomplete sentence and is sounding shocked.
True observance of religion involves a personal oneness with God and/or gods, nature etc. Being at odds with our neighbours is not a factor of religion, unless it comes down to the very basic my God is better than your God tit-for-tat. Mostly it comes down to wanting what someone else has got or stopping them from doing something you dont like, or just generally being a war-mongering psychopath. Which is generally lead by ambition, power, hatred and oppression - and rarely justified by any means. Least of all religion.

If you take religion out of the mix completely, it is likely that various people will still be at odds they would just find something else to rely on, either by Id, ego, or super-ego.

If AB contribution was to be believed, then the most peaceful religion would be Atheism, wouldnt it? If not, then perhaps Taoism, although no doubt if you go back far enough there is quite likely to be one or two murky people in their history as well.

Thank you all.

That was exactly my thought, Wizard, it made me wonder if there was any religion that can make such a claim.
Ha ha, yes that as may be, although as we all know quite recent history has shown that non-believers are very capable and willing to carry out acts of genocide for their idealistic views - and have done so.

Perhaps the only reason we don't call them atehsist wars is because atheists couldnt organise a pi55 up in a brewery?!

Do you really believe that, Wiz?

Octavius... If AB contribution was to be believed, then the most peaceful religion would be Atheism, wouldnt it?...

eh? Atheists are by far the most aggressive AB posters, they're forever jeering at believers, who never jeer back, and trying to convert them...

It's agnostics like me who are peaceful, YOU BENIGHTED HEATHEN
For the very first time I would agree 50% with wizard but the other 50% is what I said right at the top. These stories which wizard is referring to are either media stunt in a sense that no one does or ever will know about the hand behind or they are the people who are abusing the teachings of religions for their (or some one elses) ill beliefs.

We may not hear about atheists and reason for that is as octavius said (good example) or they believe in Every thing is fair in this ONLY life so they may not have problem with all the social problems religions speak against. And you do not have to be rocket scientist to understand why religions speak against those social issues.

ah, there we go, a little dig at agnostics too, eh, wizard? Just as I said...

Wiz, I aintnt suggesting that you shouldnt believe it, I value all belief systems to varying degrees. I just wondered whether that was your full understanding of the current global socio-political environment and its historical path.

jno, a fair point well made, you are the Swiss equivalent res divina and res publica of the modern world. Everybody forgets about them because they are for and against everybody else!

They are a secular branch of fundamentalist atheists and have therefore been disassociated from mainstream atheism.

Not in our name banners were produced for a protest but not enough of them turned up to hold both ends.

The sentence ended with a Full Stop !! In what way was it incomplete ?
Full stop does not mean the end of the subject. It reads a bit like this after the full stop.

But few believers manipulate and try to over-write real teachings with what suits for their own ill objectives.

Does this sound like the continuation of the matter or not.
