Perhaps the most interesting aspect of near death experiences relates to those experienced by young children, many of whom are too young to have any concept of death. Such experiences in children have been studied extensively by Dr Melvin Morse, an American paediatrician. He has looked at many critically ill children admitted to the intensive care unit and found that some of them described NDE`s. There are cases from children as young as 3 or 4 years old who had been critically ill. In fact the youngest case in the medical literature has been reported `as occurring` in a 6-month old baby who recalled the story when he was 4.

A 3 yr old boy had an episode when his heart stopped. In a drawing that he made afterwards he has depicted himself with some string leaving his head and being attached to a balloon. When asked about this he said:
when you die you see a bright lamp.

Makes you think, doesn`t it?

Well how the flipping heck would I know? (Now you've made me laugh. HAAAAA!),

I`m sorry we moved away from the original thread.

I`d like to say how I feel.

I may be a nutter as Doc noted and, then again, maybe I`m not. But I do know that if I had read about someone making claims that they heard from not just one dead husband but two, Beethoven and other dead people who put me on to their living relatives just to let them know that they were still alive, then I`m pretty sure that I would investigate further and not just write them off. After all, this might just answer the most important question that human beings can ask.

I first heard of the taped phenomena called EVP this way, and I travelled across America to see the claimant. She turned out to be a woman called Sarah Estep. a most intelligent and down-to-earth person and I couldn`t wait to get back home and try for 2-way conversations with the dead.

I used to think that because the taped voices could give the only tangible proof of the so-called paranormal that all intelligent, thinking beings would go chasing them. Not so. And why? Check the reasons I gave to Teddio and add the important one that Theland mentions.

Do you know that most sceptics and psychical researchers avoid EVP and they have never even experimented for themselves! Call that intelligent?

And I never use white noise.

Naomi, I`ve got no idea. There shouldn`t be another one beginning with R. I`ll just check. Oh, I see. A mistake has been made. After the @ should be an r before the next name

Sorry, I`ll have to get it changed.
Actually, Tina, no, I don't call that intelligent. It seems to me there are many who debunk anything considered paranormal simply because they, themselves, haven't experienced it. There are no doubt many fraudsters out there who prey on the weak, the naive, and the vulnerable, but in the main, I dont think ordinary people lie about these things. Why would they? For what purpose?

I have experienced some very odd occurrences which truly defy logical explanation. I'm not prone to flights of fancy, I'm pretty level headed and rational, I'm not into religion in any shape or form, I don't tell lies, and I will always look for the most obvious answer first - but nevertheless I can't explain them.

To my mind, anyone with an iota of scientific curiosity ought not dismiss this out of hand. Some people are clearly experiencing something, and whatever that something is warrants level headed and unbiased investigation.
OK, I try it again.

Naomi: What say a paranormal disappeance of 2 stars! I gave you 4.

Well, I`ve been dealing with them for a very long time now and I never met one with an open mind. They all have an agenda.

Sceptics generally speaking steer clear of EVP (possible reasons given earlier)

e.g. (by the way there are thousands of us who record on a daily basis) I played a short tape of captured voices that were clear, and related to my conversation. I played it to a group of people (without telling them wat to listen for, they were Class A voices). They all heard straight away, except 1,a professional sceptic, and he said that he could not hear even one word!!!

My explanation is that they do not hear what they don`t want to hear.
Oo-er ............ that is spooky, Tina. I thought the maximum stars anyone could give is three. :o)

Ms EVP - I am a Christian and therefore DO believe in the spiritual dimension.
I am at odds with your views that the dead speak to us, as it contradicts the Bible that I believe in.
However, I do believe you hear something masquerading as a dead person, and that is frightening, but not surprising to me.
I would like to urge you to continue to share your experiences / knowledge with us, as even if it serves the purpose of proving the existence of a spiritual dimension, that alone will fly in the face of the Dawkinists, even the bigoted Richard himself.
Incidentally, how exactly do you produce this phenomena?
We are all CD's in this house, and audio tapes and video tapes were long ago consigned to the bin.
Were spirits just waiting for the invention of tapes to manifest themselves, or is there another route?

Friends, I`m going to post this in parts as IE keeps closing down.

First, at the moment you could hear a couple of EVP utterances if you Google Tina EVP and then look into Alien and Spirit site. They are not my choices but the first one and the last one are the best of that bunch. I haven`t got my website but I have cassette tapes and CD`s filled with the best EVP you can find, mine and other researchers, and I`m willing to send to those who would like.

Wizard, you shouldn`t be personally insulted because that wasn`t my intention. The first ever electronics engineer who visited me was very open-minded. When I played him some EVP that were on the non-magnetic side of my reel-to-reel, unable to account for them, even though I had told him about them, walked out on me. One well-known parapsychologist took a brief look at EVP in general and made a statement that we were only listening to taxis, police, and other radio transmission, but no-one with normal hearing could possibly have mistaken those stereotyped utterances for the soft, rhythmic paranormal voices, and that is ignoring the fact that they also uttered your own name and answered your questions! Well, maybe it`s my fate not to meet the right sort of sceptic and it`s yours not to find any phenomena of substance. Arthuf Ellison used to say some people will never accept survival reports of an evidential nature because they know that psychical phenomena are impossible.

Theland, there`s probably 3 explanations for this phenomenon: dead people (survival theory), extradimensional beings (cosmic jokers theory) and (PK from the living theory). I think Occam`s Razor fits here. The voices are who they say they are. And if you`ve seen people like Nina Kulagina at work you`d know that it takes a heck of a lot of energy just to move a small object.

I think the dead have been communicating with us forever, in whichever way they could and as we progressed in our communication devices so did they. By the way, Theland, there are many beautiful writings in the Bible, but you can also find at least 145 different kinds of psychic phenomena, ranging from clairvoyance and precognition to trumpet voices, levitation and spirit writing. There are innumerable instances of materializations by spirits or angels. Sorry, I could go on.
Question Author
In 1852 a Dutch farmer by name of Janathan Koons, in his weekly seances in which a trumpet was used, captured a beautiful choir of singing voices (rumoured on a machine of his own invention)
In 1901 Waldemar Bogoras, an ethnologist studying shaman of a remote Siberian tribe captured many voices on his crude phonograph coming from all around the room speaking in Russian and English.
In 1933 a public demonstration of a seance was heodl in the New York studios that later became Decca, with four eminent parapsychologists and 2 reputable electrical engineers present. Under rigidly controlled test conditions, many paranormal voices were heard that couldn`t be accounted for. The voice entities even moved their voice levels high up into cycles way beyond the range of humans.
In 1936 Attila von Szalay started capturing paranormal voices on his phonograph records.
In the 50`s dozens of reports of intrusive voices of unknown origin, coming from military and civilian installations world-wide, were gathered together and put into John Keel`s book OUR HAUNTED PLANET.

The most well-known scientist of note, and the only one of which I`m aware who has given a lecture on EVP to the SPR, is Prof. Ernst Senkowski, a physicist with a degree on electron acceleration. He came to the conclusion that the phenomena of EVP upheld the Spiritualistic hypothesis that the so-called dead are alive and have found new ways of reaching us.

I still record the way I started 30 years ago. A small Sony hand-held tape recorder with small attached mike. I listen back with headphones and I always slow the speed down when listening back.
Some years ago, a very good friend of mine almost died during childbirth. Afterwards, she reported seeing her deceased mother in the room, and floated out to meet her! She said her mum beckoned her forwards and upwards, and that's when my friend said she was conscious of the need to get back to her own body. When she came round, she was also able to describe what the medics'd been doing, which astounded them.
