Question for the Pagans
4 Answers
I was just wondering if the Pagans have any rituals or prayers to cover the loss of a much loved animal?
The Christians don't have much to offer as I feel they don't believe animals have souls.
Im asking because I had my beloved old horse Pascoe put down in April. It was all rather quick and he was put down in our field and taken away by the knacker man. All very efficient, he did not feel anything but it was all very clinical and cold. I had always intended to have him buried in the field but at the time, events just took over.
I just feel that I need need to go to the spot in the field where it happened and make my peace with my horse and send him on but don't know how.

I have horses myself, so understand how you felt. I'm also a Pagan, and I found the following link for you, but quite honestly, I don't know anyone who've ever followed the words that you'll see. Go to the spot where your horse was, and imagine him as he was when he was with you. Ask the 4 elements to care for him and for the Goddess to protect his spirit. Then stand on the spot, and wait. As you're thinking, you'll probably see or feel something wonderful to let you know that you've been heard. Blessings.
Icemaiden, I thought I would give you a follow up on your advice.
Just before Christmas day, I stood out in our field in the early morning, it was hardly light and it was one of those days when it was not cold, not raining, just really quiet and still. I thought of Pascoe and asked the elements to take care of him and the goddess to protect him. As I stood there suddenly from absolute stillness, a breeze blew up into my face for around 30 seconds....... and then was gone. I think I had my answer. I went to work quite emotional inside after this event , and someone handed me a Christmas card and by sheer coincidence it was a picture of 4 chestnut horses with white blazes pulling a coach. they all looked so exactly like the old horse it took my breath away for a moment .
